Before you start, [set up the Course Operations Agent](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ec_set_up_course_operations_topics_in_agentforce.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Configure a Course Operations Agent that assists faculty to manage courses, engage with students and teaching assistants, identify at-risk students, and coordinate student support.").

1. [Connect Salesforce and Slack](https://slack.com/help/articles/30754346665747-Connect-Salesforce-and-Slack).
2. Sign your Slack user into Salesforce from Slack.
    1. Log in to your Slack workspace.
    2. From the sidebar, click **Sign in to your Salesforce**.
    3. Click **Continue**.
    4. Click **Continue to Salesforce**.
    5. Enter your admin login credentials.
    6. Click **Login**, and then click **Allow**.
3. To set up Salesforce record channels, update the Slack Integration User permission set. See [How Salesforce Channels Work](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=slack.slack_salesforce_channels_setup.htm&language=en_US&type=5#slack_salesforce_channels_setup__how_works).
    1. From Setup, find and select **Permission Sets**.
    2. Click **Slack Integration User**, and then click **System Permissions**.
    3. Click **Edit**, and then select **Enabled** for Access Education Cloud Objects.
    4. Save your changes.
    5. From the Slack Integration User permissions set, click **Object Settings**.
    6. Select **Course Offerings**, and then click **Edit**.
    7. Select **Enabled** for the appropriate access.
    8. Make sure that the Record Alert object is enabled for the appropriate access.
    9. Save your changes.
4. Select objects that can use Slack channels in Salesforce.
    1. From Setup, find and select **Slack Channels for Records**.
    2. Click **\+ Add Objects**.
    3. Select **Course Offering** and **Record Alert**.
    4. Click **Add Object**.
5. [Install the Slack connected app](https://slack.com/help/articles/36218109305875-Set-up-and-manage-Agentforce-in-Slack#connect-salesforce-and-slack).
6. [Add the Course Operations agent to Slack](https://slack.com/help/articles/36218109305875-Set-up-and-manage-Agentforce-in-Slack#add-an-agent-to-slack).

After the agent creates a course offering channel, it adds course offering participants and the faculty member to it. If you don’t create employee records for faculty, the agent doesn’t add the faculty member. In that case, the channel admin [adds the faculty member to the channel](https://slack.com/help/articles/201980108-Add-people-to-a-channel#desktop-1) manually.

To use the agent in the course offering or record alert channels directly, add it to the channel. Then mention the agent in a message to start a conversation.
