We provide recommendations for organization-wide sharing settings, but extend or restrict access as needed. Use sharing rules to fine-tune access beyond those settings. For example, let your staff create their own appointment topics or change the duration by setting the default internal access to Public Read/Write for the Work Type object. You can also create rules for specific staff members to restrict who can make changes. See [Grant Access to Records with Manual Sharing in Lightning Experience](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleview?id=platform.granting_access_to_records_lex.htm&type=5).

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Sharing Settings, and then select **Sharing Settings**.
2. Click **Edit**.
3. Select **Public Read Only** for these objects' default internal and external accesses:
    - Engagement Channel Type
    - Location
    - Operating Hours
    - Service Resource
    - Service Territory
    - Shift
    - Success Team
    - Work Type
    - Work Type Group
4. Select **Public Read Only** for the User object's default internal access. We recommend that you keep its default external access to Private. This restriction prevents learners from accessing all other users in Salesforce. To enable learners to schedule appointments with users with the support staff role, create a sharing rule that restricts access only to those users.
5. Save your changes.

For information about how Salesforce applies sharing settings, see [Organization-Wide Sharing Default](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleview?id=platform.security_sharing_owd_about.htm&type=5).
