# Action Plans for Learners

Action plans help learners to realize their goals by progressing through smaller, more manageable steps or tasks. Use Education Cloud to enable learners to create action plans for themselves.

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small " summary="Editions Needed"><caption>Editions Needed</caption> <colgroup><col style="width:100%"></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong>, <strong>Performance</strong>, <strong>Unlimited</strong>, and <strong>Developer</strong> Editions with Education Cloud</td></tr></tbody></table>

Use the action plan templates in Education Cloud to efficiently create action plans that contain common or frequently used tasks. As an advisor, you can create action plan templates that are shown on the Action Center component of the learner portal. In Action Center, learners can use the templates available to them to create action plans for themselves. If permitted, learners can also add tasks to an action plan that’s created from an action plan template.

On the Action Plans tab on a learner’s case record page, an advisor can:

- View the action plans assigned to the learner
- Assign new action plans to the learner

The target object of an action plan template can be contact, case, or program. The action plan template assignment object relates the template to a specific case record type or program record. Therefore, a learner can view the applicable action plan templates in Action Center only if:

- The action plan template is assigned to the learner's contact
- The learner has an open case of the specified case record type
- The learner is enrolled in the specified support program

You can also add an action plan template to a care plan template to easily assign and manage the tasks for a care plan. See [Create Tasks for Care Plans with Action Plan Templates](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.prog_case_mgmt_care_plans_create_tasks.htm&language=en_US).

Education Cloud includes these flows that automate the processes on action plans:

| RESOURCE API NAME | TYPE | DESCRIPTION |
| --- | --- | --- |
| UpdateActnPlnStsOfTsk | Flow | Updates the action plan status of a task. |
| UpdateActnPlnStsOfDci | Flow | Updates the action plan status of a document checklist item. |

Note If the case participant associated with a care plan is changed, the assignee target field for the tasks associated with the care plan isn’t automatically updated.
