# Set Up User Profiles for Admissions Connect

Create user profiles, set up app access, assign page layouts, and customize object and tab visibility.

- **[Identify or Create User Profiles](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_security_profiles.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Profiles define how users access objects and data, and what they can do within the application. When you create users, you assign a profile to each one. Admissions Connect doesn't provide default profiles. Instead, we provide default permission sets that can be assigned to users. Use any profile you like, or create new ones specific to roles on your admissions team. It’s totally up to you. For example, you could create role-specific profiles, such as Admissions Connect - Set Up and Manage for your admissions directors and other admissions administrative staff.
- **[Enable App Access](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_security_profiles.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Enable access to the Admissions Connect app for your user profiles, including the System Administrator.
- **[Set the Default App](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_security_profiles.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Make Admissions Connect the default app for your profiles.
- **[Assign Page Layouts](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_security_profiles.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Admissions Connect provides default page layouts that you must assign to profiles, including the System Administrator. We provide page layouts for the Application, Application Review, Application Material Mapping, Application Material Type, and Document Checklist Item objects.
- **[Configure App Items and Visibility](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_security_profiles.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Different profiles require different access to objects in the Admissions Connect app.

## Identify or Create User Profiles

Profiles define how users access objects and data, and what they can do within the application. When you create users, you assign a profile to each one. Admissions Connect doesn't provide default profiles. Instead, we provide default permission sets that can be assigned to users. Use any profile you like, or create new ones specific to roles on your admissions team. It’s totally up to you. For example, you could create role-specific profiles, such as Admissions Connect - Set Up and Manage for your admissions directors and other admissions administrative staff.

To align your profile names with our default permissions sets, see [Assign the Admissions Connect Permission Sets](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_security_permission_sets.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Admissions Connect provides permission sets to help you manage access to objects, fields, and the app. Permission sets are additive—they only grant access, they can’t take it away. You can assign multiple permission sets as needed, and it doesn't matter what profile a user has. Keep in mind that Users can have only one profile, but they can have multiple permission sets.").

Keep in mind that each user can only be assigned one profile. For help, see [Profiles](https://help.salesforce.com/articleview?id=admin_userprofiles.htm&type=5) and [Create or Clone Profiles](https://help.salesforce.com/articleview?id=users_profiles_cloning.htm&type=5) in Salesforce Help.

After you create or identify what profiles you’re going to use for Admissions Connect, assign them to your users when you create their User record. See [Create Users for Admissions Connect](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_data_import_users.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Every person who uses Admissions Connect must have a User record in Salesforce. How you create your User records depends on who will be using Admissions Connect. Admissions staff or other people who work for your institution are internal users. These users can only use the Admissions Connect app. People who don’t work for your institution, like alumni reviewers or applicants, are external users. These users can only use an Experience Cloud portal.").

## Enable App Access

Enable access to the Admissions Connect app for your user profiles, including the System Administrator.

1. From Setup, search for and then select **App Manager**.
2. Select the action menu for Admissions Connect and click **Edit**.
3. On the User Profiles page, add your profiles to Selected Profiles.
4. Save your changes.

## Set the Default App

Make Admissions Connect the default app for your profiles.

1. From Setup, search for and then select **Profiles**.
2. Click **Edit** next to a profile name.
3. In the Custom App Settings section, select Admissions Connect as the Default app.
4. Save your changes.

## Assign Page Layouts

Admissions Connect provides default page layouts that you must assign to profiles, including the System Administrator. We provide page layouts for the Application, Application Review, Application Material Mapping, Application Material Type, and Document Checklist Item objects.

For details about these layouts, see [Customize Record Pages for Admissions Connect](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_config_page.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Customize page layouts, record page components, and more to make it easy for your staff to access and manage applications.").

1. From Setup, in Object Manager, click the object you want to assign a page layout for.
2. Click **Page Layouts**.
3. Click **Page Layout Assignment**, then click **Edit Assignment**.
4. Select the Admissions Connect page layout in the dropdown menu, then click on each profile name you want to assign the layout to.
5. Save your changes.

## Configure App Items and Visibility

Different profiles require different access to objects in the Admissions Connect app.

The [Admissions Connect permission sets](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_permset_ref.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Review the permission sets that are required for each role in your institution.") include default object access and tab visibility settings. Customize these default settings for your institution or use them as-is. To configure the app’s navigation and set tab visibility, see [Set Up Admissions Connect App Basics](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_config_app_basics.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Get started with the Admissions Connect app by assigning the default Lightning record pages and setting up the navigation menu.").
