# Create Users for Admissions Connect

Every person who uses Admissions Connect must have a User record in Salesforce. How you create your User records depends on who will be using Admissions Connect. Admissions staff or other people who work for your institution are internal users. These users can only use the Admissions Connect app. People who don’t work for your institution, like alumni reviewers or applicants, are external users. These users can only use an Experience Cloud portal.

## Create Internal Users

1. From Setup, search for and select **Users**.
2. Click **New User**.
3. Enter details for each staff member, paying special attention to these settings.

    User License

Select an appropriate option for the users. We recommend that admissions directors or administrative staff use a Salesforce license enabled as a Service Cloud User. For other employees of the institution, such as verifiers and reviewers, we recommend using a Salesforce Platform license.

Note Users with a Salesforce Platform license must be assigned the Lightning Console permission set license to access the Admissions Connect app.

    Profile

Select one that you're using for Admissions Connect. Admissions Connect doesn't provide default profiles. For more information, see [Set Up User Profiles](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_security_profiles.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create user profiles, set up app access, assign page layouts, and customize object and tab visibility.").

    Role

Optional. If your institution isn't using roles, leave None Specified selected.
4. Save the users you've created and continue creating User records for all admissions staff members.

## Create External Users

Before creating external users, review the additional considerations in [Set Up Security for an Admissions Connect Portal](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_portal_security.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Define the data that your portal users can access.").

To allow an external user to access a portal, enable the Contact as a Customer User and specify a Customer Community Plus license. For detailed steps, see [Create Experience Cloud Site Users](https://help.salesforce.com/articleview?id=networks_create_external_users.htm) in Salesforce Help.

Note Keep in mind that users with a Customer Community Plus license must have an associated Account record. EDA's default Administrative Account fulfills this requirement.

## Next Step

[Assign a permission set](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sfdo.ac_security_permission_sets.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Admissions Connect provides permission sets to help you manage access to objects, fields, and the app. Permission sets are additive—they only grant access, they can’t take it away. You can assign multiple permission sets as needed, and it doesn't matter what profile a user has. Keep in mind that Users can have only one profile, but they can have multiple permission sets.") to give users access to objects, fields, and the Admissions Connect app.
