# Workforce Scheduling Rule Type: Appointment Start Time Interval

Appointment Start Time Interval is a Workforce Scheduling work rule type that requires the appointment start time to align with a configured interval — for example, appointments can only start on the hour, or every half-hour. Appointment Start Time Interval work rules are applicable to on-site scheduling.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong> and <strong>Unlimited</strong> Editions</td></tr></tbody></table>

Set the interval, in minutes, between available appointment start times. For example, if you set the interval as 15, appointments can then begin at the top of the hour and at 15-minute intervals thereafter (10:00 AM, 10:15 AM, 10:30 AM). Valid values are 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 240, 300, 360, 420, and 480. The default appointment start time interval is 30 minutes.

Create work rules from Setup. Find and go to **Workforce Scheduling**, and under **Appointment Scheduling Logic**, select **Work Rules**. To view or add work rule fields open the Object Manager in Setup and select the **Work Rule** custom object. To add work rules to a scheduling policy, see [Create and Manage Scheduling Policies in Workforce Scheduling](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.wfs_policies_manage.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Scheduling policies combine work rules and service objectives to control which resources and time slots Workforce Scheduling assigns to each appointment. Work rules decide who’s eligible, and service objectives decide who’s the best fit. During scheduling and optimization, the engine applies these criteria against factors like resource skills, travel time, and urgency to make sure the right person is assigned to the right job efficiently.").

## Use Case

A retail bank can use the Appointment Start Time Interval rule to prevent advisors from generating irregular scheduling times like 10:12 AM or 2:22 PM caused by varying consultation lengths and walk-in padding. By applying a 30-minute interval, the scheduling engine automatically rounds all available time slots to clean increments like 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, or 11:00 AM. This eliminates confusion for clients and desk staff, providing a predictable, professional scheduling experience alongside structured arrival times and consistent gap buffers between appointments.
