1. Complete the preliminary tasks to set up Data Capture with the Field Service mobile app.
    1. [Enable Field Service](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.fs_enable.htm&language=en_US) to access all its features.
    2. [Authorize your mobile workers to access the Field Service mobile app](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.mfs_perms_standard.htm&language=en_US) by assigning the right user license and permissions.
    3. [Enable Discovery Framework](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.discovery_framework_prerequisites.htm&language=en_US).
    4. [Enable the Discovery Framework Import or Export settings](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sf.fsc_admin_configure_import_or_export_settings_beta.htm&language=en_US).
2. Authorize your users to create forms with the Data Capture Flow process type, which presents assessment questions from Discovery Framework.
    1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Discovery Framework, and then select **General Settings**.
    2. Turn on Discovery Framework.
3. [Create assessment questions](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ind.fsc_admin_create_questions.htm&language=en_US) that integrate with the forms your mobile workers use in the Field Service mobile app.

Assessment questions are the backbone of a structured questionnaire that captures specific, consistent information during visits and inspections. You can reuse questions with version control across multiple forms. Organize questions into sets and categories, and filter them by set, so that inspectors move through a checklist in a logical order. See [Flow Question Types](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.wfs_df_data_capture_question_types.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Data Capture forms support specific question data types. The data type that you select when you create an assessment question maps to a standard flow screen component.").

For regulatory inspections, also create regulatory codes and define the compliance statuses your inspections use. When you build the form, associate each question with the regulatory code it checks against, so the inspector sees the standard while answering. See [Set Up Regulatory Compliance and Automated Violations](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.wfs_df_data_capture_regulatory_compliance_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create the regulatory codes your inspections check against, define the compliance statuses that represent a failure, and associate codes with questions. Inspections then generate Regulatory Code Violation records automatically.").
4. Prime records for offline use with Briefcase Builder.

Add the assessment questions and any high-volume reference data, such as regulatory codes, so that inspectors can complete forms in areas with poor or no connectivity. See [Briefcase Builder](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.briefcase_builder_overview.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
5. [Build forms with question sets](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.wfs_df_data_capture_build_forms.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Create forms with the Data Capture Flow process type in Flow Builder. Add assessment questions, organize them into sets and categories, set properties and conditional logic, and preview questions without leaving Flow Builder.").
6. Submit the form in the Field Service mobile app.

When mobile workers submit forms in the Field Service mobile app, Salesforce creates the assessment and assessment question response records. Salesforce creates one assessment question response record for each question to store the submitted response. If the assessment and assessment question response records aren't created, review errors in the submitted form with the assessment staged data record. See [Assessment Staged Data Records](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.wfs_df_data_capture_assmt_staged_data_record.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "The assessment staged data record holds form responses until they're validated, so you can review and correct errors before the final records are created.").
