# Set Up ArcGIS for Native GIS

To use maps in the Field Service mobile app, first assign licenses. Then, create feature layers in the ArcGIS portal. Finally, assign them to maps, and define the authentication to use to access the map.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience.</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong> Edition with the Asset Service Lifecycle Management add-on license, or in <strong>Performance</strong>, <strong>Unlimited</strong>, and <strong>Developer</strong> Editions.</td></tr></tbody></table>

1. Determine whether you're using ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Enterprise. See [The differences between ArcGIS Online and ArcGIS Enterprise](https://www.esri.com/about/newsroom/arcnews/the-differences-between-arcgis-online-and-arcgis-enterprise).
    - ArcGIS Online (AGOL) is Esri's cloud-hosted platform. Salesforce and ArcGIS Online communicate over the public internet, so no firewall or domain allowlisting is required.
    - ArcGIS Enterprise typically runs on your own infrastructure and requires network configuration between Salesforce and your ArcGIS Enterprise environment. See the next step.
2. If you're using ArcGIS Enterprise, open network access to your Salesforce account in your ArcGIS Enterprise environment.
    1. While you're setting up and testing the connection in a sandbox, contact Salesforce Support to open a case for outbound callout access to your ArcGIS Enterprise domain.
    2. This step applies whether you're working in a sandbox or in production. Contact Salesforce Support to open a case for your org's current Salesforce IP ranges, and give the ranges to your network team to open inbound access to your ArcGIS Enterprise machine. Include your org's instance in the case. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Company Profile, and then select **Company Information** to find it.
3. Assign the following Esri licenses to access the ArcGIS portal:
    - Each mobile worker needs a Mobile Worker user type license to generate location data to create or update records in Salesforce.
    - The connector and the Admin need a single ArcGIS Creator user type license to update records in the ArcGIS portal and to build ArcGIS web maps.
4. Create one or more hosted feature layers. Consider what data you want to display, how you want to display it, and who should have access to it. Each hosted feature layer can contain multiple layers. Feature layers can either provide data from an external source, or display Salesforce data, by using the Salesforce connector. See [Hosted feature layers](https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/reference/feature-layers.htm).
    1. If you are using a Native GIS connector, select **Enable editing**, and then select **Add**, **Delete** and **Update**. See [Manage hosted feature layer editing](https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/manage-data/manage-editing-hfl.htm).
    2. In the Data tab, for each layer that displays a Salesforce object, click **Add Field** and define the following fields:

salesforce\_record\_id\_c and salesforce\_object\_name\_c as Text datatypes.

        salesforce\_lastmodified\_date\_c as a Date datatype.
    3. To use the map in offline mode, make sure that **Enable sync** is selected on the Settings tab of the hosted feature layer's item page. This is necessary regardless of the data type that the feature layer displays. See [Allow offline editing or collaboration](https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/manage-data/manage-editing-hfl.htm#ESRI_SECTION2_D884E7592F554616A92E6D04CA5081C3).
5. Create a web map in your ArcGIS portal. See [How to create a web map](https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/get-started/get-started-with-maps-mv.htm).

    1. Add a default basemap.
    2. Add the required feature layers.
    3. In the Offline tab, make sure that the map is compatible for offline use. See [Take web maps offline](https://doc.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-online/manage-data/take-maps-offline.htm).

    ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-service-support_field_service-264-0-0-production-enus/3f7dceb9-dd70-454a-b49e-bbb4526a158d/images/icon_note.png)

Note If the service appointment lacks coordinates, the app uses the position and scale that is shown when you save the map.
6. Define whether to use app or user authentication to allow access to map content and location services in the ArcGIS portal. See [Authentication comparison](https://developers.arcgis.com/documentation/security-and-authentication/types-of-authentication/#authentication-comparison) and [App authentication for online users](https://architecture.arcgis.com/en/framework/architecture-pillars/security/authentication-models-and-providers.html). These options are available.
    - User authentication for mobile workers: Use this option for all mobile workers, to allow them to log in with their own credentials. As a "Named User" your specific permissions control what you can see and do. This method can also be used by connectors.

        ![Important](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-service-support_field_service-264-0-0-production-enus/3f7dceb9-dd70-454a-b49e-bbb4526a158d/images/icon_important.png)

Important Make sure that you define authenticate-with-oauth://auth as the redirect URL to use for authenticating the mobile worker when they log into the map for the first time.
    - App authentication for the connectors: Use this option to identify the application itself as the entity to run background processes, and to provide public access when you don’t need users to sign in.
7. Copy the Client ID and Client Secret that you receive. You'll need these details for setting up the authentication in Salesforce.
