# Build a Data Capture Flow

Data Capture in the Field Service mobile app presents mobile workers with dynamic, responsive forms that work online or offline. You can apply conditions to control when a flow takes a specific decision.

To build a form with Data Capture, use the Data Capture flow in Flow Builder.

Note

Data Capture relies on Briefcase Builder to prime records for offline use. Records that aren't primed by default, such as custom objects, must be added to the Briefcase Builder. See [Briefcase Builder](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=xcloud.briefcase_builder_overview.htm&language=en_US&type=5).

Note

To let mobile workers pause a Data Capture form and resume it later, from Setup, go to Process Automation Settings and turn on Let users pause flows. This setting applies to all screen flows in your org, not just Data Capture flows.

1. In Setup, find and select **Flows**.
2. Click **New Flow**.
3. Find and select **Data Capture Flow**.
4. In Flow Builder, add a screen to your flow.
    1. Click the ![Plus icon](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-service-support_field_service-264-0-0-production-enus/3f7dceb9-dd70-454a-b49e-bbb4526a158d/support_field_service/images/dc_plus.png) icon and select **Screen**.
    2. In Screen Properties, enter a label and API name. The label is visible to mobile workers.

    3. From Screen Components, click a component to add it to the form and define its properties. For example, add the Date component to let mobile workers input a date. See [Data Capture Flow Screen Components](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.mfs_data_capture_components.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "The screen components that you can add to Data Capture flows are simplified Lightning Web components. For ease of use, they have fewer properties than standard screen components.").
    4. Continue adding components and defining their properties.

We recommend dividing long screens into multiple screens to improve usability and performance.
    5. To organize complex data entry, add a **Section** component and arrange your components into columns.
    6. To create precise layouts, select a component and set its style, width, and vertical alignment in the component properties.

Component-level width and vertical alignment give mobile workers a consistent experience across the form.
    7. Once you’ve completed the screen, click **Done**.
5. Click the + icon and add interaction, logic, and data elements to the flow as required. See [Build a Flow](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.flow_build.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
6. Save the flow.
    1. Click **Save**.
    2. Define a label and API name for the flow and save your changes.
7. Activate the flow.
