# Considerations for Mapping Jamf Fields to CMDB

Learn how Jamf device data maps to CMDB fields. See which fields identify devices and how CMDB formats certain values. Use these considerations to interpret discovered data correctly and to decide when to customize the mappings.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: <strong>Enterprise</strong>, <strong>Performance</strong>, and <strong>Unlimited</strong> Editions with Agentforce IT Service that have Discovery enabled.</td></tr></tbody></table>

When you create a Jamf Pro discovery target, the Field Mapping page shows how Jamf attributes map to CMDB fields. The page shows separate mappings for computers and mobile devices, including installed software. CMDB provides these default mappings.

Note The Field Mapping page is read-only, and you can review the default mappings. To customize mappings, see [Customize Field Mappings for Jamf Discovery](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_discovery_customize_jamf_mapping.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Customize the Jamf field mappings to capture Jamf data that isn't mapped by default. Map additional Jamf attributes to CMDB fields to keep discovered device data aligned with your organization's needs.").

## Fields Used for Identification

CMDB uses these fields to identify each device and reconcile it against existing records. Identification keeps device records accurate and prevents duplicate CIs.

| CMDB Field | Purpose |
| --- | --- |
| Serial Number | Identifies Mac computers. |
| IMEI Number | Identifies mobile devices. When no IMEI is available, CMDB uses the Serial Number. |
| Asset Name | Identifies the device record. |

## Default Field Mappings

The Field Mapping page shows some of the default computer mappings, grouped by section. You can customize these mappings and map more Jamf attributes in the flow. Common default mappings include:

| CMDB Field | Jamf Field |
| --- | --- |
| Asset Name | `general.name` |
| IP Address | `general.lastIpAddress` |
| Jamf Device Id | `general.managementId` |
| Last Discovered On | `general.lastContactTime` |
| MAC Address | `hardware.macAddress` |
| Serial Number | `hardware.serialNumber` |
| Used By (User) | `userAndLocation.email` |
| Manufacturer | `hardware.make` |
| Model | `hardware.model` |
| Operating System | `operatingSystem.name` |
| OS Major Version | `operatingSystem.version` |

Important The Used By (User) field maps to the Jamf Pro user email address. During discovery, the email address resolves to the matching Salesforce user record. The Last Discovered On field stores the time that the device last checked in to Jamf Pro. Discovery uses the check-in time to sync only the devices that changed since the last run.

## How CMDB Formats Jamf Data

During discovery, CMDB automatically converts certain Jamf values to match the CMDB data model. You don't need to configure these conversions or change the values. CMDB formats these fields:

| Field | Jamf Data | CMDB Storage |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Storage (Total, Available) | Megabytes (MB) | Gigabytes (GB). CMDB divides the value by 1,024. For example, 512,000 MB becomes 500.0 GB. |
| OS Major Version | Full version string, such as 14.5.1 | The extracted major version. For 14.5.1, the major version is 14. |
