# Create a Discovery Target

Create a discovery target to define where and how agentless discovery scans IT environments. Targets define the systems, IP ranges, and environments included in agentless discovery. Each target also specifies probe types that determine how those systems are scanned. When a target runs, it creates a scan job that collects discovery data and updates asset information in Configuration Management Database (CMDB).

Before you create a discovery target, prepare the target systems and confirm that they meet the connectivity and access requirements for the probe that you plan to use. For more information, see [Agentless Discovery Network, Port, and Access Requirements](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_discovery_network_access_requirements.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Improve agentless scan reliability and keep discovered asset data current. Review the connectivity and access requirements for each supported probe before you create discovery targets.").

You can create a new discovery target using the common configuration fields available across all target types. For details about fields unique to specific target and probe types, see [Configuration Fields for Target Categories and Probe Types](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_discovery_target_fields.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Understand the configuration fields that define each agentless discovery target type. Identify which fields appear dynamically for different target category and probe types in the Configure Scan Target Details page so that you can configure discovery targets accurately.").

1. From App Launcher, find and select **CMDB and Service Graph**.
2. From the navigation panel, select **Discovery & Scanning**, and then select **Targets**.
3. Click **New**.
4. Select a the required target tategory and probe type, and then click **Save and Continue**.
5. Provide these details:

    | Field | Description |
    | --- | --- |
    | Target Name | Name for the scan target. Use a name that clearly identifies the environment or range being scanned. |
    | Description | Summary of the target’s purpose or scope. |
    | Location | Logical or physical location of the target. Helps to organize and identify where scans are performed. |
    | Enabled | Determines whether the target is active. Enable the target to include it in scheduled or manual scans. |
    | Scan Frequency | Defines how often the scan runs. You can choose immediate, daily, or weekly. |
6. If you want to save the configuration without running the scan, click **Save as Draft**
7. If you want to save the configuration and immediatel run the scan, click **Save and Run**

You can edit the configuration and run it later.

The discovery target is added to the Targets list. If you had selected **Save and Run**, the scan job starts immediately and is added to the Scan Jobs list.

You can review scan results and logs in the Scan Jobs page.
