# Configuration Management Database and Service Graph Data Kit

Sync Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data into Data Cloud. Use the data kit to map core CMDB entities to Data Model Objects (DMOs) for deeper analysis and reporting. Gain visibility into your IT asset landscape and dependencies so your team can assess service impact, investigate incidents, and plan changes.

After CMDB is turned on and the `ITSMOrgPermission` org permission is enabled, the CMDB Data Kit is available to deploy from Salesforce Go. The kit creates the data streams, Data Lake Objects (DLOs), and Data Model Objects (DMOs). CMDB data is then copied to Data Cloud. For more information, see [Connect CMDB to Data 360](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_data_cloud_connect_cmdb.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Turn on CMDB on Data Cloud and Data Sync on Data Cloud to copy Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data to Data 360. Verify that the data streams and Data Model Objects contain CMDB data.").

Review the data stream, DLO, and DMO that the kit creates for each core CMDB entity:

| Data Stream | Data Lake Object | Data Model Object | What It Stores |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `ConfigurationItem` | `ConfigurationItem` | Configuration Item | A record that represents an IT asset or component in your environment, such as a server, application, workstation, or network device. Each record stores the configuration item (CI) name, type, owner, location, and related details so you can track assets and analyze the IT landscape. |
| `CnfgItemTypeDefinition` | `CnfgItemTypeDefinition` | Configuration Item Definition | A template that defines the structure of configuration items (CIs) in a category, such as server, application, or network switch. The CI type determines which attributes apply and how CIs are grouped, so you can standardize categories and report on assets by type. |
| `CnfgItemAttribute` | `CnfgItemAttribute` | Configuration Item Attribute | A field-level definition that specifies which details a configuration item (CI) type can store, such as hostname, operating system, or serial number. Each definition includes the attribute name, data type, and whether the attribute is custom or required, which keeps CI data consistent for reporting. |
| `CnfgItemAttributeValue` | `CnfgItemAttributeValue` | Configuration Item Value | The current value of each attribute on a configuration item (CI), such as the operating system, IP address, or serial number of a specific asset. Attribute values reflect the latest state of each CI so reports and analyses stay current. |
| `CnfgItemRelationship` | `CnfgItemRelationship` | Configuration Item Relationship | A record that defines how two configuration items (CIs) are connected, such as a database hosted on a virtual machine. Relationship types like runs on, depends on, and connected to help you map dependencies, assess change impact, and investigate incidents. |

Each configuration item belongs to a CI type. Attribute definitions belong to the CI type, and attribute values belong to the configuration item. Relationships connect two configuration items, such as a database that runs on a server.

When you turn on data sync, CMDB copies the records that already exist in your org to Data Cloud, including the records created before you turned on Data Cloud. You don't run a separate job. The sync runs in the background and can take some time to complete, depending on the volume of your CMDB data. Existing records and later record changes are stored in the same DLO and DMO instead of separate current and historical datasets. While data sync is on, new and updated CMDB records continue to sync.

Data sync includes all attributes defined on your CI types, both standard and custom attributes. Attributes that use the Lookup Relationship type keep their link to the related Salesforce record, such as a user, user group, or location. You can then report on CMDB data together with the related Salesforce data.

Turn on CMDB on Data Cloud and Data Sync on Data Cloud to copy Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data to Data 360. Verify that the data streams and Data Model Objects contain CMDB data.
