The Salesforce Policy Connector must be installed in Microsoft Word. See [Configure Microsoft 365 Integration for IT Compliance](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_cmpl_policy_o365_guided_setup.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Configure the link between Salesforce, Microsoft Azure, and SharePoint to enable policy authoring in Microsoft Word. This guided setup serializes the setup process so you can enable everything sequentially, from credentials to external document storage without any errors.").

To edit a policy or clause version in Word, the record must be in Draft, Review, or Pending Approval status. Published, Active, or Retired records are read-only.

1. From the App Launcher, find and select **IT Compliance**, and then select **Compliance Policy Versions**.
2. Open the Compliance Policy version you want to edit in Microsoft Word.
3. Click **Open Document in M365** from a Compliance Policy record to open the policy in Microsoft Word.
4. Alternatively, open a policy using Smart Policy Authoring tools.
    1. From a Compliance Policy record, click **Smart Policy Authoring**.
    2. Select **Collaborate on Microsoft 365**.
    3. Select the policy version you want to open.
    4. Click **Got It**.

The policy will open in Microsoft Word in a new tab.
5. In the Microsoft Word window, click the **More Options** tab and select **Salesforce Policy Connector for Microsoft Word**.

The Salesforce add-in will load in the side panel.
6. Review the following document metadata.

    - Confirm you're editing the correct policy and policy version.
    - Confirm that the Policy is in the correct status to be editable.
    - View the timestamp of the last successful sync with Salesforce.
7. To pull the latest updates from Salesforce into your Word document, click **Refresh**.
