1. From Setup, click **Salesforce Go**.
2. Search for and select **Configuration Management Database (CMDB)**.
3. Click **Get Started**.
4. Select **Turn On Configuration Management Database (CMDB)**.
5. Under Set Up the Basics, complete the steps.

Use the checkboxes to help you track your progress.

    1. For Define Base CMDB Configuration, click **Go to CMDB Administration**.
    2. Create configuration item (CI) types, set attributes, and establish relationships.
    3. Turn on **Auto Copy of CIs to IT Service**.

Configuration item details are populated in related IT service records, such as incident, problem, or change.
    4. For Set Up Auto Discovery of Assets, click **Go to Feature Page**.
    5. Set up scan targets and configure asset discovery to bring in configuration items.
6. If you want to retrieve CMDB information through natural language conversations, create a CMDB agent .

A CMDB agent can answer questions about CIs, CI relationships, dependencies, and other CMDB data by using the CMDB actions available in Agentforce. For more information , see [Create an Agent from an Agentforce Employee Agent Template](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=ai.agent_employee_agent_setup.htm&type=5&language=en_US) and [AI Actions for CMDB Management](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_agentforce_fulfiller_cmdbmgmnt.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
7. Under **Unlock Advanced Functionality**, configure asset creation and CI linking settings.

These settings identify and link assets to discovered CIs. If the system doesn’t find a match, it creates an asset.

    1. Select **Turn On CI-to-Asset Creation and Linking**.
    2. Configure a [Default Asset Owner Account](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_cmdb_asset_sync_create_default_account.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Capture details about configuration items (CIs) that don’t have owner information by creating a default account. All assets found during the discovery process must be related to an Account ID or Contact ID, so the default account acts as a placeholder for the unassigned assets. This account is only used to create new assets. If an asset exists and matches a rule, the system updates the existing asset fields.") to provide a placeholder account for unassigned assets found during discovery.
8. Under **Unlock Advanced Functionality**, set up the Configuration Management Insights Dashboard.

You can monitor your IT environment's composition and track ongoing operational trends using this dashboard. For more information, see [Configuration Management Insights Dashboard](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_cmdb_insights_dashboard.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Monitor configuration item (CI) trends and analyze operational insights across your IT environment by using the Configuration Management Insights dashboard. Track CI metrics such as incident volume, CI status, and business criticality to identify high-impact infrastructure areas and prioritize troubleshooting efforts.").

    1. For Connect Your Data Sources to Data Cloud, click **Learn More in Help**.

You can configure the required Data Cloud connections for the CMDB analytics dashboard. For more information, see [Set Up Data 360 for Agentforce IT Service](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_data_cloud_setup.htm&type=5&language=en_US).

The deployment creates the required data streams, data model objects, and mappings for CMDB analytics. For more information, see [Agentforce IT Service Data Kit](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.it_srvcs_data_cloud_data_kit.htm&type=5&language=en_US).
