- To prevent sync issues, always add an asset mapping in Setup _before_ creating asset records with that custom status.
- Verify that your organization has the required licenses, location settings, and product configurations. Set org-wide defaults for product items and locations to **Public Read**.

## Turn on Asset Based Inventory on a Location

Configure locations and establish status-mapping rules to drive an automated framework. The system evaluates the underlying asset status and rolls up mapped values to corresponding product item quantity fields.

1. From the App Launcher, find and select **IT Hardware Asset Management**.
2. Select **Locations**.
3. Select the stockroom or storage location to configure.
4. Select **Edit**.
5. Select **Inventory Location**.
6. In **Usage Type**, select **Asset based**.

Note You can't change the **Location Usage Type** if serialized products link to product items at this location.
7. Save your changes.

## Create a Custom Asset Status

Add a custom value to the asset status picklist to track states outside default offerings.

1. From Setup, open **Object Manager** and select **Asset**.
2. Select **Fields & Relationships**, then select **Status**.
3. In the Asset Status Picklist Values section, select **New**.
4. Enter your custom status value, such as `Available - Refurbished`.
5. Save your changes.

## Configure Mappings in the ITAM Setup Console

1. From Setup, enter IT Asset Management in the Quick Find box and select **Asset Status Mapping**.
2. Select the **Status Category** tab.
    1. Click **Add Mapping Field**.
    2. Under Asset Status, select your custom status.

        ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-service-it_service-264-0-0-production-enus/0a574a10-4c7a-4681-aacf-0767f8beaad4/images/icon_note.png)

Note If you don't see your custom status value, refresh your browser.
    3. Under Asset Status Category, select the parent category (for example, map `Available - Refurbished` to `In Stock`).
3. Select the **Inventory Quantity** tab.
    1. Click **Add Mapping Field**.
    2. Select the Asset Status and pair it with the corresponding Product Item Quantity field (for example, Quantity On Hand, Quantity Damaged, Quantity On Hold, Quantity Allocated, or Quantity In Transit).

        ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-service-it_service-264-0-0-production-enus/0a574a10-4c7a-4681-aacf-0767f8beaad4/images/icon_note.png)

Note If a single status updates multiple quantity fields (for example, Defective), add two separate mapping rows for that status.
4. Select the **Lifecycle Status** tab.
    1. In the Value column, locate the standard business event or transaction type you want to configure (for example, **Fulfillment Order Sent** or **Disposal Complete**).
    2. In the corresponding Asset Status dropdown, select the target status the asset automatically transitions to when that event occurs (for example, map **Fulfillment Order Sent** to `In Transit`).
5. Select the **Asset Search** tab.
    1. Click **Add Mapping Field**.
    2. In the new Value dropdown, select your target search context (for example, **Fulfillment Order Search**, **Return Order Search**, or **Disposal Order Search**).
    3. In the new Asset Status dropdown, select the status or statuses that dictate device eligibility during lookup operations for that search category (for example, map **Fulfillment Order Search** to `Available`).
6. Save your changes.
