# Create a Broadcast Topic for Broadcast Alerts

To let incident managers send a broadcast alert, first create at least one broadcast topic. When an incident occurs, incident managers can then send broadcast alerts to groups based on a broadcast topic.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;"><a href="https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.service_editions_reference.htm&amp;language=en_US" target="_blank">View supported editions</a>.</td></tr></tbody></table>

Before you create a broadcast topic:

1. [Review or create groups.](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.user_groups.htm&type=5&language=en_US)
2. [Create a broadcast topic type](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=slack.slack_apps_sales_create_broadcast_topic_type.htm&type=5&language=en_US) or use the default type.

If you already have a broadcast topic for your broadcast alerts, you can skip these steps and go straight to assigning it to a group.

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Customer Service Incident Management, and then click **Customer Service Incident Management**.
2. Under Create Broadcast Topics and Assign to Group, click **Create & Assign**.
3. Select **New**.

    ![Create Broadcast Topic window](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-service-support-264-0-0-production-enus/dd14551c-a772-4db6-9a1d-d84df8df2980/support/images/incident_management/incident_mgmt_new_broadcast_type.png)
4. Enter a name and description, then select a broadcast type.
5. Select **Incident Communication** as the broadcast reason.
6. Save your changes.

After you create a broadcast topic, assign it to a group.
