description: Scheduling constraints are records that are defined on the service resource or service territory. They set the limit for how many shifts, in units or hours, can be assigned to a resource over a given time period (for example a day, week, or month). To match service resources to shifts, the work limit-type scheduling rule looks first for a constraint on the service resource. If no constraint is found, the rule looks for a scheduling constraint on the service territory.

# Add Shift Scheduling Constraints

Scheduling constraints are records that are defined on the service resource or service territory.

### Required Editions

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">Available in: Lightning Experience</td></tr><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;">The Field Service core features, managed package, and mobile app are available in <strong>Enterprise</strong>, <strong>Unlimited</strong>, and <strong>Developer</strong> Editions.</td></tr></tbody></table>

Define a scheduling constraint for each service resource, either on the service resource record or on the service territory. If you don’t know what limits to set, it’s OK to set up constraints with empty values.
