Complex work covers jobs that require multiple visits. A job can span multiple service appointments that share dependencies, such as a required order, a required time gap, or a shared resource.

The Gantt highlights all related service appointments when you select a complex job, displaying the full sequence and enforcing stage dependencies automatically during scheduling.

## Optimize Operations with the Dependency Graph

The Dependency Graph maps appointment connections interactively. Dispatchers can trace relationships, prevent delays, and adjust schedules safely to protect SLAs.

Complex jobs often require sequential execution, where one task depends on another or relies on strict time windows. Unmonitored shifts in individual appointments can trigger domino-effect delays and cause service-level agreement breaches.

The Dependency Graph translates raw data into a live visual map:

- **End-to-end visibility:** View entire service chains instantly instead of navigating multiple individual records, saving dispatchers critical triage time.
- **Impact analysis:** Evaluate how a single delay or resource change impacts subsequent appointments before making adjustments.
- **Resource Aaccountability:** See assigned service resources across every link in the chain to streamline team coordination.

## Add the Visual Graph Component

Before dispatchers can view dependency chains, an admin must add the Dependency Graph component using Lightning App Builder to one or both of these central hubs:

- **Service Appointment Record Pages:** Ideal for detailed review during account management or customer inquiry calls.
- **Service Side Panel:** Ideal for live dispatching and real-time schedule adjustments within the console.
- **Admin Setup Note:** After you add the graph component using the Lightning App Builder, any user viewing a service appointment within a dependency chain gains immediate visibility into the graph.

From **Setup**, enter Lightning App Builder in the Quick Find box, then select **Lightning App Builder**. Click **New** to create a Lightning page, or click **Edit** next to the designated Lightning page to edit the default page. See [Lightning Pages](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=platform.lightning_page_overview.htm&type=5&language=en_US).

## View and Read Dependencies on the Canvas

To trace a dependency chain and assess its impact across your schedule:

- Select a service appointment.
- Click **Edit** in the Action bar.
- Select **More** > **Dependencies**.

After the graph opens, interact directly with the canvas to inspect connections and resource assignments:

- **Pan & zoom**: Move around the canvas by dragging, or use your touchpad or the on-screen zoom controls to adjust scale.
- **Appointment nodes**: Each node represents a service appointment and displays key work details and assigned resources so you know who is running each phase.
- **Dependency edges**: Connecting lines (edges) represent relationships. Hover over an edge to view a tooltip describing the dependency constraints.
- **Merged lines for readability**: When appointments share multiple connections, the graph merges those edges into one to keep the view clean. Select any node to highlight its specific chain or jump straight to that record.
- **Chain isolation & filtering:** Isolate an entire chain directly from the action bar:
- **Highlight on Gantt:** Select **More** > **Highlight on Gantt** to locate the chain visually on your timeline.
- **Show temporary list:** Select **More** > **Show List** to create a filtered list view of the connected appointments for batch operations.

## Managing Dependency Chains in the Scheduling Console

The graph pairs directly with the Scheduling Console to give dispatchers full operational control over interconnected jobs.

- **Visual risk indicators:** Icons on Gantt tiles and map markers instantly flag appointments that belong to a dependency chain.
- **Rule violation warnings:** if a proposed change violates a chain constraint, the console generates automated warnings before an edit takes effect.
- **Bulk unscheduling:** Unschedule an entire dependency chain in a single click by selecting any single appointment in the group, saving manual effort.
- **Single-drag chain rescheduling:** If an entire chain relies strictly on _Immediately Follows_ dependencies, dispatchers can drag the first appointment to shift the entire job sequence.
