# Consume Serialized Inventory

When an item is used during a field service appointment, create a product consumed record to adjust your inventory numbers accordingly. You can add products consumed to work orders or work order line items. You can also track product consumption at the line item level to know which products were used for each line item’s tasks.

### Required Editions

Use your organization’s best practices to define a process for associating an asset with the consumed serialized product.

1. Create a product consumed.
    1. Open the work order.
    2. On the Related tab, go to Products Consumed and click **New**.
    3. If applicable, enter a work order line item. The work order is auto-populated.
    4. Select the serialized **Product Item**.
    5. Enter 0.00 for the **Quantity Consumed**.
    6. Add context in the **Description** field.
    7. Click **Save**.
2. Set the product consumed state.
    1. Go to the work order’s **Related** list.
    2. Select the product consumed.
    3. Go to the product consumed **Related** list.
    4. On Product Consumed State, select **New**.
    5. Use the lookup field to select a **Serialized Product**.
    6. For the **Consumed State**, select Consumed or Withdrawn indicates that the product was previously dispatched but taken out of circulation for repair.
    7. Click **Save**.
    8. Repeat the steps for all serialized products included in the product consumed.
3. Consume the product.
    1. Edit the **Product Consumed**.
    2. Select **Consumed**.
    3. Enter the **Quantity Consumed.**
    4. Click **Save**.
