# Turn on the Cross-Lingual Intent Model

Use the cross-lingual intent model to get a unified view of intent performance for all the languages defined for a bot. The model allows you to test utterances in any supported language, before or after adding the language to your model. Plus, you can train your model on as little as one utterance per language.

Note Beginning the week of October 30, 2023, newly created or cloned bots and bot versions default to the cross-lingual intent model, including single- and multi-language bots.

Building an intent model with Einstein Bots is supported in the following languages: [Define Languages for Your Einstein Bot](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.bots_service_language_define.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Your global customers expect your bots to understand their native language. To know what your customers are saying, your bots must know how a language works. Bots use natural language understanding (NLU) and named entity recognition (NER) to understand language and local details such as dates, currency, or number formatting. Einstein Bots that use a specific language can better understand the customer and route them to the correct dialog."). You can use the cross-lingual intent model with multi-language or single-language bots.

To turn on the model for a bot, the bot must have at least two intents and at least one utterance per intent per language. However, more utterances make the model more accurate. An intent must have at least 20 total utterances across all languages to generate an F1 score on the Model Management page.

To turn on the intent model or to switch between intent models, deactivate your bot.

1. From the Einstein Bots Setup page, click the name of your bot to launch the Bot Builder.
2. From the Bot Builder menu, select **Overview**.
3. In the Settings section, edit the Intent Enhancements panel and then enable **Use the Cross-Lingual Intent Model with this bot**. Save your changes.
    1. To recognize the intent of the first message a customer sends, enable **Use First Message Intent Recognition with this bot**.
4. If it’s your first time creating an intent model for your bot, turn on Einstein for at least two dialogs before building your model.
    1. On the Dialogs page, select a dialog you want to include in your intent model.
    2. Click **Enable Dialog Intent** on the dialog.
    3. Add at least one utterance. You can add utterances manually, with Einstein Intent Sets, or with tools like Einstein Conversation Mining.
    4. Turn on the **Einstein** toggle on the dialog.
5. On the Model Management page, click **Build Model**. You must rebuild the model every time you turn on or switch between intent models.

After you successfully build your model, you can test it using the Input Tester on the Model Management page. You can test utterances for any supported language before or after adding training data for that language to your model.

To switch between the original intent model and the cross-lingual intent model, on the Bot Overview page, edit the **Use the Cross-Lingual Intent Model with this bot** setting. Then on the Model Management page, rebuild the model. Your bot must meet the minimum intent data requirements for the model you want to turn on. You can’t switch from the cross-lingual intent model to the original intent model if your bot uses a language that’s only supported for the cross-lingual intent model.
