# Manage Goals

You can create, edit, and delete goals from the Dialogs page or the Goals page of the Bot Builder. On the Dialogs page, goals appear as a Goal dialog step. You can’t make changes to goals when your bot is active.

### Required Editions

You can add multiple goals to the same dialog. You can’t add the same goal to multiple dialogs.

## Create or Add a Goal from the Goals Page

Create a goal and choose whether to add it to a dialog now or later.

1. From the Goals page, click **New Goal.**
2. Enter a goal name that’s unique to your bot using letters, numbers, and underscores only. This name identifies your goal in reports.
3. Optionally, to add your goal to a dialog, in the Associated Dialog field, search for and select the dialog you want to add your goal to. Your goal is added to the end of the dialog as a Goal dialog step. To add your goal to a dialog later, leave this field blank.
4. Save your changes.

To add an existing goal to a dialog from the Goals page, edit the goal. To add an existing goal to a dialog from the Dialogs page, add the Goal dialog step to a dialog.

On the Dialogs page, you can move your goal to a different location in your dialog by dragging the Goal dialog step.

## Create or Add a Goal from the Dialogs Page

Create or add a goal to a specific point of a dialog.

1. From the Dialogs page, open the dialog where you want to add a goal.
2. From the Dialog Component Library, drag the **Goal** dialog step onto the canvas to the location you want in the dialog.
3. In the Step Properties panel, in the Goal Name field, select or create a goal. This field shows only goals that aren’t associated with another dialog. Goal names support letters, numbers, and underscores only.
4. Save your changes.

## Edit or Delete a Goal

Edit a goal from the Goals page to change its name, add it to a dialog, or move it to another dialog.

To delete a goal, from the Goals page, delete the goal from the Bot Goals list.

When you delete the Goal dialog step from a dialog on the Dialogs page, you remove the Goal from the dialog, but the goal persists in the Bot Goals list. You can delete the goal from the Goals page or add it to a different dialog.
