# Media Region Coverage

When you configure a trunk, the media region you choose determines which Salesforce Voice Point of Presence (VPOP) your trunk uses. A VPOP is basically the gateway where your call signals and audio pass through Salesforce's network. Select the media region closest to your carrier's infrastructure to reduce delay and improve call quality.

### Required Editions

This article applies to:

Salesforce Voice (Native Telephony)

<table class="slds-table slds-table_bordered slds-max-medium-table_stacked slds-m-bottom_small edition"><colgroup><col></colgroup><tbody><tr class=""><td class="slds-cell-wrap" style="vertical-align:top;"><a href="https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=service.voice_editions.htm&amp;type=5&amp;language=en_US" target="_blank">View supported editions</a>.</td></tr></tbody></table>

Every VPOP comes with a failover VPOP for reliability. Your calls always go through the main VPOP for your chosen region. If that main VPOP goes down, calls automatically switch to the failover VPOP so your service stays up. When the main VPOP comes back online, calls switch back to it.

| Media Region | FQDN | Failover Behavior |
| --- | --- | --- |
| US West 2/ East 1 - PDX/IAD | byoc.us.salesforce-ccaas.com | Both VPOPs are deployed in an active-active mode and traffic is load balanced between them. If either VPOP goes down, the other VPOP handles the entire traffic. |
| EU Central 1/West 2 - FRA/LHR | byoc.fra.salesforce-ccaas.com | Both VPOPs are deployed in Active-Passive mode. FRA is the active VPOP handling all the traffic. If EU Central 1 - FRA goes down, EU West 2 - LHR serves as the standby VPOP. |
| EU West 2/Central 1 - LHR/FRA | byoc.lhr.salesforce-ccaas.com | Both VPOPs are deployed in an Active-Passive mode. EU West 2 - LHR is the active VPOP handling all the traffic. If EU West 2 - LHR goes down, EU Central 1 - FRA serves as the standby VPOP. |
