# Validate That Records Plot Correctly in Salesforce Maps

After geocoding data, verify that records appear in the correct geographic locations on the map. To validate settings, plot a temporary marker layer and confirm that records appear in the expected geographic locations.

1. In Salesforce Maps, select **Layers** | **New** | **Marker Layer**.
2. Select one of your base objects, and click **Plot**.
3. Confirm that records appear in roughly the correct locations on the map.
4. If records don't plot, spot-check one that failed: confirm that its address fields are populated and valid and that the base object's address source and latitude and longitude fields are accurate. Then re-run a geocoding batch.
5. When you're done, you can either remove the temporary layer or keep it for future validation.
