Salesforce Maps search results include points of interest from your map provider, records in your plotted marker layers, and geocoded records from your configured objects. If you have a large volume of data, you can improve search performance by excluding base objects that your users don't frequently search. The search method you choose also determines how Maps queries Salesforce records.

To change how Maps queries records, [select a search method (SOQL or SOSL)](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.salesforce_maps_setup_search_method_select.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Choose how Salesforce Maps queries records. SOQL, the default, returns up to three records per object and works well for smaller datasets. SOSL returns a broader range of results (up to 100 records across the search) and performs better for large datasets.") in the Salesforce Maps global preferences.

## Exclude an Object from Search

Improve performance by excluding objects that your users don't frequently search.

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Installed Packages, and then select **Installed Packages**.
2. Find the Salesforce Maps package, and then click **Configure**.
3. Go to **Base Object > Edit Existing**.
4. Select the object that you want to exclude.
5. Under Advanced Options, select **Disable Global Search**.

- **[Select a Search Method for Salesforce Maps](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.salesforce_maps_setup_search_method_select.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Choose how Salesforce Maps queries records. SOQL, the default, returns up to three records per object and works well for smaller datasets. SOSL returns a broader range of results (up to 100 records across the search) and performs better for large datasets.
