# Select Which Objects Plot in Salesforce Maps

Salesforce Maps uses objects such as Account, Case, or Lead to plot records. Add each object that you want to visualize, and map its address and coordinate fields.

## Add a Base Object

1. Enter Installed Packages in the Quick Find box, and then select **Installed Packages**.
2. Find the Salesforce Maps package, and then click **Configure**.
3. Select **Base Object** | **Create New**.
4. Select the object that you want to appear on the map.
5. Enter a name for this base object configuration so you can identify it later (for example, **Accounts by billing address**).
6. Select which address fields to use.
    - To use the object's address fields, select **This Object**.
    - To use the address fields of the object's parent record (for example, Case uses its related Account address), select the related object.
7. Select the standard or custom address and coordinate fields for Maps to reference (for example, the account billing address).
8. Save.

## Configure Address Inheritance from a Related Object

For records without their own address fields, such as Visit or Case, plot the record at a related parent's address. For example, a Visit appears on the map at its related Retail Store, or a Case appears at its related Account address.

1. Find the Salesforce Maps package, and then click **Configure**.
2. Select **Base Object**, and then select the base object for the records that you want to plot.
3. Select the address-location field (such as PlaceID or AccountID).
4. Select the related object that supplies the address (such as Retail Store or Account).
5. Select the address fields to plot from the related object, and then save.

## Edit an Existing Base Object

1. Find the Salesforce Maps package, and then click **Configure**.
2. Select **Base Object** | **Edit Existing**, and then select the object.
3. Update the address source (**This Object** or a related ID), coordinate field mappings, or the record type that the base object applies to.
4. Save.

Edits take effect immediately for newly plotted records.

## Next Steps

After you add your objects, [run geocoding](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.salesforce_maps_setup_batch_geocode.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Records plot on the map after they have a verified latitude and longitude. Salesforce Maps geocodes records by matching their address fields against a geocoding provider and writing the resulting coordinates back to the record.") to plot records on the map. Records plot only after they're geocoded.
