# Set Up Auto Assignment in Salesforce Maps

Create an assignment plan with rules that route records to users based on geographic criteria.

1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Installed Packages, and then select **Installed Packages**.
2. Find the Salesforce Maps package, and then click **Configure**.
3. On the **Auto Assignment** tab, create an assignment plan and give it a name.
4. Add rules to route records to users based on geographic criteria (for example, the territory shape that a record falls in).
5. Select the target object, and map the address fields that the rule evaluates.
6. Activate the plan, and then save.

Records that match the plan's rules are assigned to the corresponding users.

To assign records on a schedule or in bulk, run assignments as a batch (see _Salesforce Help_: Schedule and Run Record Assignments). To trigger assignments from custom automation, use the `AssignRecords` global method in the Salesforce Maps Developer Guide.
