1. In the Trailmaker Content workspace, click **Add Content**, and select **New Trail**.
2. Enter the trail’s details.

![New trail page, showing the fields for trail art, title, API name, description, and filter picklists](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sales-mytrailhead-264-0-0-production-enus/0d6bc03d-58c7-47e8-89c9-5e00c98b5485/mytrailhead/images/tm_content_trailpage_new.png)

    1. To add trail art, click the icon field (1). Upload an image file or enter a URL to an image file on a content delivery network.

        ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sales-mytrailhead-264-0-0-production-enus/0d6bc03d-58c7-47e8-89c9-5e00c98b5485/images/icon_note.png)

Note Use a PNG file smaller than 10 MB. The ideal size for trail art is 200 ×200 pixels. See [Guidelines for Images, Screenshots, Badge Art, and Trail Icons](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.mth_best_practices_badge_trail_art.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Part of the fun of creating an enablement site is bringing your content to life with images, including illustrations and screenshots, and designing your own badge and trail icons.").
    2. To specify a custom color for the trail, select a color from the palette. Or, click the dropdown, and use the Custom tab in the color picker window to specify a Hex code or RGB values.

        ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sales-mytrailhead-264-0-0-production-enus/0d6bc03d-58c7-47e8-89c9-5e00c98b5485/images/icon_note.png)

Note The color that you select applies to the trail header and the trail icon’s background. To make the icon stand out from the header, Trailmaker implements a color contrast that slightly darkens the header.
    3. Enter a trail title (3).
    4. Accept the suggested API name (4), or enter a unique name that you want to use instead.

        ![Note](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sales-mytrailhead-264-0-0-production-enus/0d6bc03d-58c7-47e8-89c9-5e00c98b5485/images/icon_note.png)

        Note

        - A trail’s API name is used in URLs, so the API name is visible to learners.
        - Each trail API name must be [globally unique](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.mth_api_names_on_mytrailhead.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Each content collection, release, trail, module, and unit on your enablement site has its own API name, which is a globally unique ID that references a content path in URLs.").
    5. Enter a brief description for the trail (5).
    6. Select the trail’s applicable filters (6).

        - One or more user roles for the trail’s target audience
        - The experience level for the trail’s target audience
        - The product tags that apply to the trail
3. To add a module to the trail, click **Add Module** (7). In the Add Module to Trail window, select which option you want to use for adding the module.

    - To create a module in Trailmaker Content, select **Create a module**. Complete the steps in [Create a Module in Trailmaker Content](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.mth_create_module_in_tm_content.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "A module can stand alone or be a part of a trail. When you’re ready to create a module and its units, move the final draft of your content from a word processor into Trailmaker Content.").
    - To add an existing module that’s already in your workspace, select **Add a module from your workspace**. Then, search for the module name to add, and click **Done**.
    - To add a module by referencing its API name, select **Add a module by API name**. Then, enter the exact API name for the module to add, and click **Done**. Referencing by API name is useful for creating a trail that references modules that don’t exist in the current writer’s workspace, such as:
        - Modules that have already been published on your enablement site.
        - Modules that you plan to create and add in the same release as the trail.
        - Modules that other writers create in their own workspaces and add to the same release.

    ![Tip](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-sales-mytrailhead-264-0-0-production-enus/0d6bc03d-58c7-47e8-89c9-5e00c98b5485/images/icon_tip.png)

    Tip

    - If you specify a module that's already published on your enablement site, the module appears in the trail after you publish.
    - If you specify a module that hasn't been published on your enablement site, make sure that you add the module and the trail to the same release before you publish.

If you’re collaborating with other content creators on the trail before you’re ready to publish it, [download the trail’s backpack](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.mth_download_content_from_tm_content.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "You can download the backpack ZIP file for a module or trail that’s in your Trailmaker Content workspace. Then, you can submit the backpack to your company’s version control system (VCS) so that other users can import the backpack into their own local Trailmaker Content workspace."), and submit it to your company’s version control system. Then, delete the trail from your local workspace. When your collaborator is finished, you can [import the most recent version of the trail’s backpack](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.mth_upload_published_or_archived_content_to_tm_content.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "You can add learning content into your workspace from a backpack ZIP file that you saved or downloaded. This workflow is helpful when you want to collaborate on content that other content creators started in their own workspace. Or, follow these steps when you want to update published content or restore archived content. You can also import a content template that you downloaded.").

Note To preview a trail, [launch the full release preview from the Trailmaker Release app](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.mth_preview_content_on_mytrailhead.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Your content stakeholders can preview all the new or changed trails and modules that you plan to publish in a release. The full release preview shows new or changed content in the context of all published content in your company’s enablement site. Only users with the appropriate permission can access the full release preview."). The Trailmaker Content preview is compatible only with modules.

If you’re ready, a user with the Manage Releases permission can [add the trail to an unpublished release](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.mth_add_content_to_release_from_tm_content.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "After you create your module and quizzes and assign all the necessary metadata, add the content to a release.").
