Important

Starting in Winter ‘21, [Lightning Sync isn’t available](https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewSolution?urlname=Lightning-Sync-End-of-Sale&language=en_US) to new Salesforce customers. Use Einstein Activity Capture to sync events, contacts, and emails between your connected account and Salesforce.

If you have Lightning Sync, use the [migration tool](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.lightning_sync_move_parent.htm&type=5&language=en_US) to move to [Einstein Activity Capture](https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=einstein_sales_aac.htm&language=en_US) before Lightning Sync retires in 2027. Before you migrate, review [Compare Einstein Activity Capture and Lightning Sync](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=sales.email_integration_admin_eac_vs_lightning_sync.htm&language=en_US) to understand what to expect when you migrate.

If your org is exempt from migration because of a licensing issue or if your org doesn’t support Einstein Activity Capture, you won’t see the migration tool in Lightning Sync.

Before preparing Salesforce for Lightning Sync, make sure that you’ve taken the necessary steps to prepare your company’s G Suite account to communicate with Salesforce.

1. From Setup, [Register a new remote site](https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTViewHelpDoc?id=configuring_remoteproxy.htm&language=en_US) for https://www.googleapis.com. Don’t disable protocol security for the site, or Salesforce can’t connect with Google.
2. From Setup, enter Sync in the Quick Find box, then select **Gmail Integration and Sync**.
3. Select **Let users sync contacts, events, or both between Google and Salesforce** to enable Lightning Sync.
4. Click **Let users sync contacts, events, or both between Google and Salesforce** to see additional setup steps.
5. Select **OAuth 2.0** as your preferred connection method.
6. Upload the private key for your Google service account. Your Google admin generated the key when setting up the service account for Lightning Sync. If you need to download your key again, your Google admin can do so from the Google API Console on the APIs & Services Dashboard.

Important People in possession of your private JSON key have access to your company’s Google account. Therefore, only share the key with team members who need it, and share it via secure pathways. For example, emailing your private key isn’t a good idea.

When you’re finished, run the Lightning Sync connection test to make sure that you’ve set up your connection correctly.
