# Territory Planning

Import custom Area fields into an alignment, and run a flow or Lightning web component from the alignment. Carve postal-code territories in Taiwan, Vietnam, and Mexico, and choose where non-boundary rules publish when a territory splits. Track assignment-rule and locked-unit changes, keep legend filters across sessions, and give planning teams edit access to alignments.

- **[Plan Territories Using Custom Area Fields](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_sales_custom_area_fields.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Import up to 20 custom fields from the Area object into an alignment, and then view and update the values while you plan. You see the fields in the legend and in the area editor, and you filter, sort, and search them the same way you work with other area attributes. Field-level security applies, so you edit only the fields you can access. Previously, area attributes came only from a CSV import.
- **[Launch Flows and Components from an Alignment](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_sales_alignment_custom_actions.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Add a Lightning web component or a flow as a custom action so your planners finish planning work from an alignment. You name the action and select the component or flow. Your planners start the action from the alignment toolbar. The action opens in the alignment and passes the alignment ID and the current focus to the component or flow.
- **[Carve Territories with Postal Codes in More Countries](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_sales_postal_code_countries.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Use 5-digit postal codes to carve geographic territories in Taiwan and Vietnam. In Mexico, use 5-digit contiguous postal codes. Add a boundary from an alignment, and then plan territories in those countries the same way you plan other geographic territories.
- **[Publish Split Territories with the Rules You Choose](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_sales_split_territory_rules.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
When a geographic assignment rule is large enough to split into child territories, choose whether to publish non-boundary assignment rules on the parent territory or on each child territory. The **Parent territory** option remains the default and matches the previous behavior.
- **[Track Assignment Rule and Locked Unit Changes](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_sales_assignment_rule_history.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
In alignment history, review the assignment-rule criteria that changed and see when a rule is deleted. History also records when units are locked or unlocked. Previously, a rule event stated that something changed but did not include the criteria, and lock and unlock actions were not recorded.
- **[Keep Legend Filters Across Alignment Sessions](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_sales_legend_filters.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Your planners see the same legend filters the next time they open an alignment, including after a browser refresh. Territory Planning saves the filters for each planner, on every legend tab, for that alignment only. The setting stays off until you turn it on. If a filter refers to a field that is no longer an alignment attribute, Territory Planning removes that filter and warns the planner.
- **[Give Planning Teams Edit Access to Alignments](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_sales_planning_team_access.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Add a user to the planning team for a segment or for an entire sales plan, and grant Territory Planning access. When that user opens a segment they can access, they can edit the alignments for that segment.
