# Publish Split Territories with the Rules You Choose

When a geographic assignment rule is large enough to split into child territories, choose whether to publish non-boundary assignment rules on the parent territory or on each child territory. The **Parent territory** option remains the default and matches the previous behavior.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions. A Sales Planning add-on license is required.

**Why:** When you publish manual assignments to Sales Territories, Territory Planning leaves existing manual assignments in place.

**How:** From an alignment with geographic territories, select **Publish to Sales Territories** and specify the publish settings. If a territory is too large, select the option to split it into child territories. For the Publish non-boundary assignment rules on field, select **Parent territory** or **Child territories**.![publish territories](https://sf-zdocs-cdn-prod.zoominsoftware.com/tdta-release-notes-salesforce_release_notes-264-0-0-production-enus/550ba85b-db1a-4608-9cd4-9a65ec96e1fa/salesforce_release_notes/images/sales/publishsplitterritories.png)
