Automated transaction logs track inventory quantity changes across the asset lifecycle. Each ledger entry captures what changed, when it changed, and the business process that triggered the change, along with the related fulfillment order line item, asset activity, or return order line item.
Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions with IT Service.
Why: Inventory changes weren't consistently tracked across an asset's full lifecycle, creating uncertainties where inventory could be incorrectly depleted without an audit trail. Now, the system automatically generates transaction records:
- Reserving inventory creates a Reserved transaction.
- Sending a fulfillment order logs an Outbound Shipped transaction.
- Receiving a fulfillment order logs a Delivered transaction.
- Receiving a return order logs an Order Received transaction.
- Marking an asset as damaged or on hold triggers an Adjusted transaction.
Each transaction includes a link to the related fulfillment order line item, asset activity, or return order line item. The link can also relate to an inventory item reservation or product transfer, establishing a complete audit chain. Accurate availability counts derived from product item inventory prevent assets from being allocated multiple times. If a single operation modifies multiple inventory categories, the system generates independent transaction records for each change. Product Item Transaction (PIT) records document Quantity On Hand changes, while Product Item Additional Transaction (PIAT) records document Quantity Allocated, Quantity Soft Reserved, Quantity Damaged, and Quantity On Hold changes.
