# Map Asset Statuses to Lifecycle Processes and Inventory Tracking

Map custom asset status values to standardized categories, inventory quantities, lifecycle transitions, and search filters through a centralized setup interface. Without custom code, define how each status affects inventory availability, automatic status transitions, and asset search filters to ensure accurate operational tracking.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions with IT Service.

**Who:** To configure status-mapping rules, you need the Hardware Asset Management - Asset Manager permission. To create custom asset statuses, you need the Customize Application permission.

**Why:** Previously, downstream features such as inventory calculations and lifecycle transitions relied on hardcoded statuses, forcing you to use complex Metadata API configurations to map custom statuses. Now, you define how custom statuses interact with inventory quantities, status categories, and search filters through the UI, so your organization keeps inventory accurate and compliance reporting scalable without API-level custom code.
