# Discover Org Metadata with the Metadata Grounding MCP Server (Beta)

The Metadata Grounding MCP Server gives AI agents a semantic understanding of your org's metadata. This enables development agents to discover and reuse metadata such as standard and custom objects and fields, Lightning web components (LWC), users, permission sets, flows, Apex classes, and so on. Build faster with any coding agent by finding exactly what you need through natural language queries. Queries are performed against Salesforce Catalog, where your org metadata is stored and indexed.

**Where:** This change applies to any edition that's supported by Data 360, has Data 360 provisioned, and has API Enabled.

Note The Metadata Grounding MCP Server is a pilot or beta service that is subject to the Beta Services Terms at [Agreements - Salesforce.com](https://www.salesforce.com/company/legal/agreements/) or a written Unified Pilot Agreement if executed by Customer, and applicable terms in the [Product Terms Directory](https://ptd.salesforce.com/). Use of this pilot or beta service is at the Customer's sole discretion.

**When:** This feature is available on a rolling basis starting in October 2026.

**Who:** The server returns metadata that the authorized user is permitted to access.

**Why:** To find and reuse metadata across your org traditionally requires manual searches through documentation, local project files, or setup pages. AI agents can't easily discover metadata that’s in your org but isn't in your local Salesforce DX project, which leads to duplicate work and missed reuse opportunities. The Metadata Grounding MCP Server can find your org metadata across more than 60 supported types by performing semantic searches on Salesforce Catalog. You can ask natural language questions like "Find fields related to lease end date" or "Which objects track reservations?" and get relevant results.

**How:** Configure the Metadata Grounding MCP Server in your development environment or MCP client, such as Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, and so on. See [Activate MCP Servers](https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/platform/hosted-mcp-servers/guide/activate-mcp-servers.html). The server connects to your authorized Salesforce org and enables development agents to access metadata through these read-only tools.

- Metadata discovery—search your org's fields, objects, Lightning web components, users, permission sets, flow, Apex classes, and more across over 60 metadata types.
- Metadata explainability—understand what each item is for, based on the descriptions and properties in your org.
- Metadata reuse—give coding agents read-only access to what already exists so they extend it instead of rebuilding it.
