Improve Productivity and Efficiency by Optimizing Multiday Service Appointments

Reduce visits per asset, increase resource utilization, lower travel costs, and build reliable schedules without manual cleanup. The optimization engine can now shift and drop multiday appointments to align schedules with your business priorities. By dynamically adjusting multiday work alongside shorter appointments, the engine closes schedule gaps and reduces disruptions. Previously, the engine scheduled each appointment independently and locked multiday assignments after initial placement, limiting overall schedule quality.

Where: This feature is available in Lightning Experience and Salesforce Classic in Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer editions with the Field Service managed package installed.

Why: In industries with asset-heavy operations—such as wind farm maintenance, solar installations, telecom rollouts, and utility repairs—manually managing long-cycle work can fragment schedules and increase travel and mobilization overhead. Optimized multiday scheduling helps maintain site continuity while remaining adaptable to other operational priorities. When you run optimization across a scheduling horizon, the engine groups work at the same site into one continuous block for a single worker. The engine then automatically consolidates new appointments into that cluster so the worker handles all site work during the same visit. If a high-priority emergency arrives and capacity is full, the optimizer drops lower-priority work while preserving site continuity on the remaining schedule, preventing schedule fragmentation.

How: In Setup, go to Field Service Settings and verify that Field Service Enhanced Scheduling and Optimization is enabled. To configure multiday logic, open the Field Service Admin app from the App Launcher. In the Field Service Settings tab, select Scheduling, and then select General Logic. Verify that your designated multiday checkbox field is correctly mapped.
