Prompt templates in Prompt Builder can ground generative AI requests with Word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, text, CSV files, and email files, in addition to PDF and image files.
Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions with Einstein for Platform, or Einstein or Agentforce for Sales or Service add-on, or Agentforce Foundations.
When: This change is available in Salesforce orgs upgraded to Winter ’27 starting the week of October 12, 2026. Go to trust.salesforce.com for exact dates.
Why: Prompt templates already accepts PDF, JPEG, and PNG files. Many grounding sources are still in Word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, or email files. Add those Salesforce Files to the prompt template so the AI model can use them at run time, without converting the files yourself first.
How:
From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Prompt Builder, and
then select Prompt Builder. Open a prompt template, or click
New Prompt Template. Add a file input and select a
Salesforce File. These file types are supported: .pdf,
.jpg, .jpeg, .png,
.doc, .docx, .ppt,
.pptx, .xls, .xlsx,
.xltx, .txt, .csv, and
.eml.
Not every AI model accepts file inputs. Open Details for the selected AI model to review file limits.
