# Data Mask & Seed

Secure your sandbox data by using Salesforce's Data Mask & Seed. Admins and dev teams can define masking policies and use them to mask sensitive sandbox data, such as proprietary, restricted, government-regulated, and personally identifiable information (PII).

Data Mask & Seed is a native Salesforce app and not a managed package. Being a native app, it requires no installation and the Salesforce platform automatically applies all necessary updates.

The following features are generally available in this latest release of Data Mask & Seed:

- [Detect PII Proactively in Your Masking Policies](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_data_mask_and_seed_pii_detection.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "When configuring masking policies, Data Mask & Seed evaluates each object field's Sensitivity value—in addition to its Categories value—to proactively detect personally identifiable information (PII). Data Mask & Seed identifies object fields assigned a non-public Sensitivity level, such as Internal, Confidential, or Restricted, and automatically assigns the appropriate masking option for each field. The Sensitivity column in the Data Mask & Seed UI shows each field's assigned sensitivity value when you view or edit a policy object.")
- [Mask with Locale-Specific Data](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_data_mask_and_seed_locale.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "Define a locale for each masking policy, and Data Mask & Seed generates masked data in the alphabet, language, and format of that locale.")
- [View Object Field API Names Directly in Masking Policies](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_data_mask_and_seed_policy_ux.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5 "When you view or edit a masking policy, Data Mask & Seed displays each object field's unique API name instead of its label. An associated tooltip shows both the field's API name and label for easy reference.")

- **[Detect PII Proactively in Your Masking Policies](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_data_mask_and_seed_pii_detection.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
When configuring masking policies, Data Mask & Seed evaluates each object field's Sensitivity value—in addition to its Categories value—to proactively detect personally identifiable information (PII). Data Mask & Seed identifies object fields assigned a non-public Sensitivity level, such as Internal, Confidential, or Restricted, and automatically assigns the appropriate masking option for each field. The Sensitivity column in the Data Mask & Seed UI shows each field's assigned sensitivity value when you view or edit a policy object.
- **[Mask with Locale-Specific Data](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_data_mask_and_seed_locale.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
Define a locale for each masking policy, and Data Mask & Seed generates masked data in the alphabet, language, and format of that locale.
- **[View Object Field API Names Directly in Masking Policies](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_data_mask_and_seed_policy_ux.htm&release=264.0.0&type=5)**
When you view or edit a masking policy, Data Mask & Seed displays each object field's unique API name instead of its label. An associated tooltip shows both the field's API name and label for easy reference.
