# Connect Companion Sandboxes Without Manual Metadata Cleanup

Eliminate time-consuming metadata cleanup when connecting companion sandboxes to a Data Cloud One Home org sandbox. If companion sandbox orgs are created or refreshed after October 09, 2026, you can usually retain metadata in the companion org sandbox when establishing the companion connection.

**Where:** This change applies to Developer, Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions.

**When:** This feature is available in Winter ’27 starting the week of October 09, 2026.

**Why:** This feature enhances the companion sandbox connection experience when your companion production org is already connected. You can establish a connection without manual cleanup when you:

- Connect a new sandbox created from the companion production org.
- Connect a refreshed sandbox created from the companion production org.

This change applies only to companion sandbox lifecycle events. Existing approaches for home org sandbox lifecycle events remain the same.

**How**: From your Home org sandbox, initiate a connection to the companion org sandbox. The metadata begins syncing immediately as long as there's no metadata drift between the two orgs. If the metadata has already drifted, download the error log to identify drifted metadata, and then delete only the drifted metadata. After this selective deletion, metadata syncing will auto-resume.
