# Track Unusable Inventory to Maintain Accurate Available Stock Levels

Capture and classify inventory that is damaged, expired, lost, or otherwise unusable during receiving and inventory transfer, reflect its impact on available quantity, and preserve traceable quantity-change history, including for batch and serialized products.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience across multiple clouds where Asset Service Lifecycle Management is enabled.

**Who:** This feature is available to users with the Inventory Search and Transfer or Inventory Replenishment User permission sets.

**Why:** Track damaged, expired, lost, or stolen goods separately so your available inventory reflects what you can actually fulfill without custom fields or manual workarounds. For example, a distributor receives 1,000 units, records 100 as damaged and 100 as expired, then transfers the expired stock to a junk location. Available quantity excludes the 200 unusable units, while their reasons and inventory changes remain traceable.

**How:** From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter **Inventory Management General Settings**, and then enable **Inventory Management for Unusable Quantities**. Users can then categorize inventory as unusable during receiving and transfer operations by selecting an Inventory Status and a Status Reason (Damaged, Expired, Lost, Stolen, or custom values).
