New Features for Tableau Next Home and Workspaces

A Tableau Next workspace organizes your data analysis and facilitates creating new analytical assets, cloning, and referencing assets from Data Cloud or other workspaces. Within workspaces, you have tools for data analysis, including data connections, a semantic model builder and metric creator, and visualization and dashboard builders to share findings with others. Live data connections ensure that your analyses stay up to date.

  • Upload Data to a Tableau Next Workspace by Using Google Drive (Beta)
Import files such as Excel, CSV, and Google Sheets from your My Drive and Shared Drives with the Google Drive connector. To control who can see and use data, set up a service or shared account to manage broad access permissions effectively across your company.
  • Multitask During Data Ingestion with the New Data Ingestion Drawer
Stay productive during data ingestion with the new minimizable data ingestion drawer. Instead of navigating a full-page window, you can now track progress while simultaneously setting up more tables or exploring other tabs. This update ensures a continuous workflow by enabling you to multitask across your workspace without waiting for ingestion tasks to complete.
  • Customize Tableau Next Files with Centralized Editing
Update the structure of your data more efficiently with centralized editing for data lake objects. Instead of navigating through separate menus for each table, access all your selected assets in one place to adjust metadata. This update makes it easier to find and use customization tools, so that you can modify your Data Cloud objects to your business needs.
  • Ingest Salesforce CRM Data Directly into Tableau Next (Beta)
Convert standard and custom CRM objects into Data Lake Objects without leaving Tableau Next. You can now browse available connections, update a field's data type, and view primary keys directly from the data ingestion page.
  • Use the Data Interpreter to Refresh Excel Files
You can now use the Data Interpreter during Excel (.xlsx) file re-uploads to refresh Data Lake Objects built from non-standard layouts. A sheet selector enables you to identify specific sub-tables rather than relying on automatic matching logic. This control makes sure that updated data ranges ingest correctly without manual restructuring.
  • Accelerate Dashboard Insights with Enhanced Document Search and Automated Refreshes for Google Drive
Search for files and folders by name on My Drive, Shared Drive, and Shared with me instead of navigating complex folder structures. This enhanced search experience goes beyond the local cache, enabling you to differentiate between duplicate file names. Pair this update with automated refreshes for Google Drive data lake objects to make sure that your dashboards remain up to date.
  • Verify Data Interpreter Results and Inspect Original File Layouts (Beta)
Inspect and validate Excel data cleanup by using the new Review Results (Beta) option. After running Data Interpreter, open the results menu to see detailed descriptions of detected formatting adjustments alongside a preview of your original file. Reviewing these explanations makes sure that your data ranges appear correct without needing to re-open the source file.
  • Clean and Update Unformatted Excel Data Automatically with Data Interpreter (Generally Available)
Prepare, clean, and update unformatted Excel files automatically by using the Data Interpreter. Eliminate manual file restructuring by automatically fixing multi-row headers, merged cells, and extra title rows during initial upload. When re-uploading updated Excel files, manually select sub-tables to ensure Data Lake Objects refresh accurately. Your users get trusted data formatting from upload to insight without breaking downstream data pipelines.
  • Share Enterprise Google Drive Connections Across Tableau Next Workspaces (Beta)
Create a Google Drive connection to give all Tableau Next workspace users access to enterprise data without creating duplicate connections. You can easily discover and import shared CSV, XLSX, and Google Sheets files without needing individual credentials or manual file transfers. You also gain centralized connection management that keeps team data aligned while simplifying workspace setup.
  • Clone Referenced Assets and Dependencies in a Tableau Next Workspace
You can now clone semantic data models and referenced assets inside a Tableau Next workspace. When you clone these assets, copies go in your current workspace and you become the owner of the copies. Related dependencies get added automatically as references to your workspace, saving you manual setup time. A referenced asset is any asset added to a workspace that didn't originally create it, and acts as a pointer to the asset owned in another workspace. This action gathers all related, necessary assets for further analysis.
  • Find and Create Assets Right from the Tableau Next Home Page
Streamline your analytics workflow by creating assets directly from the home page. Save time by bypassing navigating into a workspace before creating or finding existing content. Select Add from the home page to create assets, find existing ones, or start a new workspace in one fluid motion. For example, find an existing visualization and add it to a new workspace, right from Home.
