New Features for Tableau Next Visualizations and Dashboards

Compose visualizations and dashboards with world-class analysis tools. Explore data and surface insights that you can act on by building visualizations on related data in your workspace to draw conclusions and make business decisions. Take data visualization to the next level with dashboards, where you can add interactivity, enhance data exploration, and provide a clear overview of the critical information that you need in one place.

  • Take Action on Predictions in Visualizations and Dashboards
Surface machine learning predictions in Tableau Next visualizations and dashboards with the Predict() function defined in the semantic model. Compare historical data and predicted outcomes side by side in a visualization to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Access prediction scores, drivers, and recommendations right where you visualize data and take action faster. Use prediction fields in calculated fields, filters, and aggregations to refine and extend your analyses.
  • Format Tableau Next Visualizations and Dashboards with Greater Control
Customize the appearance of Tableau Next visualizations and dashboards with the expanded Style pane. Apply formatting to text, lines, backgrounds, and marks for a consistent appearance. Customize individual elements such as axes, field labels, headers, and legends to improve readability. Visualizations preserve their formatting when added to dashboards, where you can override formatting to suit your preferences.
  • Continue Analyzing Dashboard Visualizations in Context
When you explore a visualization from a dashboard, review the applied dashboard filters and parameters so you can evaluate how they affect the data. From there, create a clone that includes the current dashboard filters as its starting point while leaving the original visualization unchanged. Or, edit the original visualization without the applied dashboard filters and parameters.
  • Easily Replace Semantic Models in Visualizations
When you extend a semantic model with additional calculations, data objects, or modified relationships, update the original semantic model to its extended version in existing visualizations. Tableau Next automatically maps matching fields based on their API name, object name, and data type. Preserve existing visualizations while simultaneously making new fields available for analysis. Unmapped fields remain available in the Data pane so you can add or replace them in the visualization. If Tableau Next doesn't map a field automatically, drag the corresponding field from the extended semantic model to replace it.
  • Analyze Performance Across Multiple Measures with Radar Charts
Compare entities across multiple measures with radar charts in Tableau Next. Evaluate results over time or side by side to quickly identify strengths, weaknesses, and overall performance patterns using their distinctive shapes. The Radial layout makes it easy to create these visualizations without requiring complex calculations or workarounds. Optionally, add a KPI value to the center of the chart to highlight a related aggregate metric.
  • Reveal Recurring Trends in Radial Line Charts
Visualize a measure over a repeating sequence to spot cyclical and seasonal patterns in a Tableau Next radial line chart. Compare multiple groups across the same cycle, such as months of the year, to identify where peaks, dips, and patterns align or differ. Because the beginning and end of the sequence appear next to each other, you can easily see whether trends continue seamlessly or change abruptly across the cycle boundary.
  • Explore Geographic Trends with Choropleth Maps
Create choropleth maps in Tableau Next to compare data across geographic areas such as countries, states, counties, and cities. Visualize differences in values using color to quickly identify geographic hotspots and outliers. Explore the map interactively and zoom in for greater detail or zoom out for a broader picture.
  • Analyze and Visualize Tableau Next Data with MCP-Compatible AI Clients (Beta)
Use Tableau Next analytics with your preferred MCP-compatible AI assistant or agent, such as Agentforce, ChatGPT, or Claude. Create, edit, and save visualizations and dashboards, or ask questions about your Tableau Next data without leaving your existing AI workflow. Save visualizations and dashboards as governed Tableau Next assets for reuse and continued analysis.
  • Bring Salesforce Organizational Hierarchies into Tableau Next (Beta)
Build Tableau Next visualizations, dashboards, and metrics that recognize your Salesforce organization's reporting structure. When you create a Hierarchy Logical View in your semantic model based on your Salesforce organizational hierarchy, you can group and filter data, drill down and roll up through reporting levels, and use the hierarchy across dashboards and metric detail pages. Create hierarchy views from manager hierarchies to track team performance, role hierarchies to analyze metrics across sales roles, or territory hierarchies to monitor sales targets by territory.
  • Streamline Embedding of Tableau Next Analytics in Experience Cloud
Eliminate the need for custom SDK implementations and extensive coding to embed Tableau Next components. Experience Cloud admins can now embed Tableau Next dashboards, visualizations, and metrics in Experience Cloud sites by using drag-and-drop components. Easily configure display properties and filters for embedded Tableau Next analytics in Experience Builder. Embedded analytics automatically respect each signed-in user's access and session context, delivering personalized data securely.
  • Bring Custom Fonts to Embedded Tableau Next Dashboards in Experience Cloud
Experience Cloud admins can expand their font options for Tableau Next dashboards embedded in Experience Cloud by including custom fonts. Apply these fonts to align dashboards with the Experience Builder site. Create a more cohesive experience for customers and comply with your organization’s design standards.
  • Group Table Rows to Organize and Summarize Data
In Tableau Next table layout, categorize large datasets into logical groups to quickly review subtotals and totals in the collapsed view. Drill into the underlying details as needed in the expanded view. Group by calculated fields and apply conditional formatting to highlight data segments that require attention. Preserve your row groups when you switch to other layouts, making it easy to continue exploring the same data in different visualizations.
  • Show KPI Values in Radial Charts
Highlight aggregate metrics alongside visualizations in Tableau Next by including KPI values in radial charts. For example, track total sales in the center of a donut chart while breaking down sales by category. Or, monitor sales quota attainment with a radial bar chart that compares progress toward sales goals across regions. You can format a KPI value as a number or percentage and add the visualization to a dashboard to monitor key metrics.
  • Discover Cyclic Data Patterns with Five New Radial Chart Types
Arrange data around a circular axis in Tableau Next to compare values, identify cyclic or seasonal patterns in your data. With the new Radial layout, you can create pie charts, Nightingale rose charts, radial heatmaps, radial bar charts, and spoke bar charts without requiring complex calculations.
  • Create Point Maps from Geographic Fields
Transform geographic data into interactive maps in Tableau Next to explore regional trends and patterns without manually entering latitude and longitude coordinates. Use geographic roles and hierarchies to simplify map authoring, organize related location fields, and distinguish between places with the same name. Also, navigate maps efficiently using map controls or keyboard shortcuts for common actions.
  • Keep or Exclude Data Directly in Tableau Next Visualizations
Analyze data more efficiently by keeping or excluding selected marks in a visualization, automatically creating filters based on your selections. As you iterate on your analysis, adjust the generated filter criteria in the Filters pane to continue narrowing or expanding your view. Save the visualization with the filtered data and filters you created for future analysis.
  • Download Tableau Next Visualization Data as a CSV File
Export the data displayed in a visualization as a CSV file for auditing, collaboration, or further analysis in other tools. Tableau Next exports up to 5,000 rows, including any dashboard filters and facet selections you applied.
  • Draw More Granular Comparisons with Reference Lines
To compare performance across segments more effectively, add reference lines at the pane or cell level in your Tableau Next visualization. To align benchmarks with the time periods in your analysis, create reference lines from date part fields such as month, quarter, and year. Previously, you could apply reference lines only at the table level and create date-based reference lines only from date values.
  • Aggregate Dimensions as Attributes in Tableau Next
To provide additional context for aggregated measures in a visualization while keeping your view focused on summarized results, aggregate dimensions as attributes. Use aggregated dimensions for color, labels, tooltips, and detail in tables and charts. For example, in a table that shows sales by sub-category, aggregate Category as an attribute to color cells and visually distinguish related sub-categories. In a chart that shows profit ratio by state, aggregate Region as an attribute to add regional context without changing the structure of the view.
  • Tableau Next’s Suggest Panel Is Now the Show Me Panel
To better represent the experience it provides, the Suggest panel is now called Show Me. During this transition, you may see a mix of the new and previous terms in our documentation and UI.
  • Optimize Tableau Next Dashboard Loading with Configurable Data Modes
Ensure rapid loading for embedded overview dashboards to improve the user experience and reduce system overhead. You can now switch entire dashboards to cached mode, which uses stored query results rather than triggering expensive live updates for every page load. This approach provides a performance boost for frequently visited pages while maintaining the option to bypass the cache for urgent data needs.
  • Simplify Cross-Functional Analysis by Using Multi-Model Filtering
You can now analyze disparate semantic data models (SDM) simultaneously through a single dashboard interaction. A selection in one filter widget can now filter metrics and visualizations powered by entirely separate semantic data models. For example, filter different date fields across different objects with a single filter widget. This update eliminates duplicate filters and simplifies the dashboard experience for your users.
  • Restructure Tableau Next Dashboard Layouts with Multi-Widget Selection
You can now select multiple widgets to manage your dashboard layouts with greater precision. Move a group of widgets to a new tab or update widget styles in seconds. This flexibility enables you to focus on high-level dashboard organization rather than repetitive individual widget adjustment.
  • Format Dashboards Faster with Bulk Widget Styling
Apply style changes to multiple dashboard assets to create a cohesive look for your dashboards. Select several widgets to update borders and corner radiuses in a single action, or use new keyboard shortcuts to copy and paste styles between widgets. These updates replace the need to manually format every individual widget, saving time during the design process.
  • Embed Live Metrics Directly into Tableau Next Text Widgets
Add real-time overviews to text widgets with embedded live metric attributes. This feature enables you to merge metrics with your strategic observations that deliver thorough and active business context on your dashboard.
  • Update Selected Dashboard Widgets with Targeted Parameter Updates
Update specific Tableau Next metrics instantly without triggering a full-page refresh of surrounding widgets. This enhancement updates the previous behavior where modifying any parameter initiated a global reload of the active page. Authors can isolate parameter changes to a select set of dependent widgets.
  • Enable Mobile Access with Embedded Tableau Next Dashboards
View embedded Tableau Next dashboards on mobile devices directly within Lightning pages. Widgets automatically adjust to compact screen sizes to deliver optimal readability and layouts on phones. This update bridges the gap for mobile users, ensuring consistent data access and informed decision-making anywhere.
  • Get Intuitive Browsing Across All Dashboard Pages with the Navigation Widget
Use the Navigation widget to transform dashboard pages into a horizontal navigation bar. The new widget avoids manual button configurations and automatically scales with new dashboard pages. You can also hide or rearrange pages as you want them to appear in the bar.
  • Identify Key Performance Drivers with Cross-Metric Dashboard Summaries
The Summary widget enables you to merge Tableau Next metrics into a cohesive narrative on your dashboard. Instead of scanning individual metrics, the summary widget helps you pinpoint essential performance drivers quickly. By providing a centralized overview, the Summary widget helps stakeholders understand current developments and their reasons at a single glance.
  • Enhance Tableau Next Dashboards with Redesigned Filter and Parameter Widgets
Customize how filter widgets and parameters appear on dashboards by using new display styles. An updated List style is the new default for filters, while a new Card design is the default for parameters. You can easily switch back to classic styles at any time. Existing dashboards are unaffected, and the new defaults apply only when you add a new filter or parameter.
  • Build and Customize Tableau Next Dashboards More Efficiently
Design Tableau Next dashboards more effectively with fresh authoring tools created to accelerate your workflow, promote brand uniformity, and simplify metric analysis. You can now instantly preview layout changes when you reorder pages. Also, save time by selecting several widgets at after to apply consistent formatting across your layout. For faster troubleshooting of your dashboard metrics, you can now open any metric to view its setup without navigating through semantic models.
  • Maintain Visual Consistency with Embedded Tableau Next Analytics in Dark Mode
Embedded charts and dashboards within Tableau Next now reflect the theme of your Salesforce org, shifting between light and dark modes. To ensure visual consistency and accessibility, dashboard widgets, metric cards, and visualizations automatically update their color schemes to maintain contrast ratios. While this feature is enabled by default for new dashboards, existing ones require manual updates to support theme switching. Also, the Tableau Next dashboard editor doesn’t support dark modes.
