# Get Ready for Enhanced Conversational Analytics with Tableau Agent in Tableau Next

Tableau Agent in Tableau Next now offers an enhanced conversational analytics experience. Highlights include improved accuracy and consistency, more guided alternatives, and support for more advanced analytical interactions. If you've already created agents based on the Analytics and Visualization template, or you are eager to start, be sure to read the Why and How sections below.

Note Starting in July '26, Agentforce for Analytics in Tableau Next is now called Tableau Agent. Concierge: Analytics Q&A is now referred to as a conversational analytics capability in Tableau Agent and is enabled using the Data Analysis subagent in the Analytics and Visualization template. As we transition to these new terms, you may see a mix of the new and old terms in our documentation.

**Where:** This change applies to Data 360 and Tableau Next in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions.

**When:** Available July '26

**What:** Conversational analytics in Tableau Agent provide more advanced reasoning and a broader range of deep analysis.

- **Improved answer accuracy.** Agents produce more reliable and reasonable responses across a variety of question types. In addition the agent now enforces stronger adherence to business context and guidance.
- **Advanced reasoning and narrative generation**. The agent now provides more informative narratives and rationale behind its conclusions to help you understand the reasoning behind an answer. Responses include useful observations and high-level insights in addition to answers to questions.
- **Progressive reasoning updates**. As the agent thinks about your question, it provides transparent updates about its reasoning process.
- **Deeper context and memory for conversations**. Refine questions, refer to previous questions and answers in a session, or ask natural follow-up questions without having to remind the agent of the context. Conversations with the agent are more accurate and effective because the agent remembers you asked and manages context in back-and-forth conversation.
- **Guided alternatives**. When the agent can't answer a question directly, it suggests alternative questions or directions to support further exploration.
- **Metadata awareness and discoverability**. Users can ask the agent "What questions can you answer?" or "How is the ACV metric defined?" to better understand what data is available and how to query it. Users can ask the agent what data objects, fields, metrics, dimensions, and semantic definitions are available in the data.
- **Expanded visualization types**. In addition to bar charts, line charts, and table charts, the agent now supports donut charts, scatter plots, and heatmaps. Users can ask to change an existing visualization type for quick exploration of the same data through different perspectives without needing to re-ask a question.
- **Added question types**. Additional question patterns are now available in the agent, including:
    - **Composite questions**: Users can ask questions that require more complex queries and self joins to analyze similarities and gaps in the data. For example, "Which accounts have similar sales to ACME?"
    - **Period-over-period analysis**: Users can ask the agent to compare metrics across time periods, such as month over month, year over year, or year to date. For example, "What's the MoM change in closed opps in the last 6 months?"
    - **Top / bottom contributor analysis**: Users can ask the agent to identify leading or lagging segments driving performance. For example, "Which regions contribute most to the sales growth in the current quarter?"
    - **Statistical analysis**: Users can ask about distribution and statistical correlation. For example, “What’s the distribution of deal sizes for closed opportunities?”

**Why:** Starting in July '26, the Analytics and Visualization template has been updated with a new query engine and other capabilities that enhance conversational analytics in Tableau Next.

If you've created agents based on the Analytics and Visualization template (with Data Analysis added) in a previous release, those agents will continue to work for a limited period of time. However, you will need to start creating new agents based on the new Analytics and Visualization template with Data Analysis in Tableau Next.

- Existing agents created before July '26 will continue to work for a limited period of time. Salesforce will notify you when these agents will no longer be supported.
- Starting in July '26, any new agents you create must be based on the new agent template.

Also in July '26, admins will need to transition from using the Legacy Agentforce Builder to using the Agentforce Studio app.

- In Tableau Next, for orgs on July '26 (Patch 11.0) admins will need to use the Legacy Agentforce Builder to create a new agent.
- For orgs on July '26 (Patch 12.0), admins will need to use the Agentforce Studio app to create a new agent.

**How**: Enhanced conversational analytics are available through agents based on the Analytics and Visualization template in Tableau Next when system administrators with the required permissions follow these general steps.

1. In Data Cloud for the Home org, confirm the **Metadata Knowledge Graph and Semantic Enrichments (Beta)** setting is enabled in Data Cloud Setup > Feature Manager.
2. In Tableau Next, turn on the **Tableau Agent** and **Data Analysis** settings in Tableau Next Features > Settings.
3. In Agentforce Builder, create an agent based on the **Analytics and Visualization V2** template and confirm the **Data Analysis** subagent has been added.

You may see an **Analytics and Visualization Legacy template** and an **Analytics and Visualization V2** template in Agentforce Builder or Agentforce Studio. Select the Analytics and Visualization V2 template.

For information on required permissions and detailed set up instructions, see [Set Up Tableau Agent in Tableau Next](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.tua_admin_enable_agentforce_templates.htm&type=5&language=en_US) in Tableau Next help.

Note Enabling the Metadata Knowledge Graph and Semantic Enrichments setting in Data Cloud triggers the infusion of data objects and semantic models into Tableau Agent knowledge. Depending on your data, this operation can take up to several hours.

The Metadata Knowledge Graph and Semantic Enrichments setting must be enabled in Data Cloud for the Home org. If you are using Companion orgs the Metadata Knowledge Graph and Semantic Enrichments setting must be enabled on the Home org but the Tableau Agent and Data Analysis settings must be enabled on the Companion org.

Starting in Tableau Next July '26 for [Q&A Calibration](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=analytics.tua_data_sdm_qa_calibration.htm&type=5&language=en_US), questions in Verified Question lists for preexisting agents will be marked as Needs Verification. These questions can be revalidated with existing and new agents.

In Tableau Next July '26, the Exploration and Visualization template is deprecated and can no longer be used to create new agents for conversational analytics in Tableau Next. Beginning in August 2026, the Data Connection and Analytics Creation (Beta) template in the new Agentforce Builder replaces the Exploration and Visualization template and becomes available through a phased rollout.
