# Accessibility Enhancements in Omnistudio

Deliver more inclusive digital experiences with comprehensive accessibility, usability, and consistency enhancements across Omnistudio runtime components. These updates follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 best practices to improve navigation for screen reader and keyboard users.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience, Experience Cloud sites, and all versions of Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions where Omnistudio is enabled.

**Who:** This feature is available to Omnistudio customers who use the standard runtime and standard designer.

**Why:** These improvements provide clearer feedback, enhanced visual contrast, and more reliable interactions for users of assistive technology.

## Omniscript Enhancements

- Edit Block: When the Add or Edit dialog is open, focus is trapped within the modal to prevent interaction with elements outside it.
- Step Chart: Screen readers now convey incomplete or unstarted steps using aria-disabled="true". Top Step Chart Placement, now displays the Steps heading.
- TypeAhead Block: Added feedback for character limit violations and improved the edit icon color contrast to meet accessibility standards.
- Lookup element: Improved button spacing to prevent accidental clicks and ensured field validation remains consistent during navigation.
- Range: Increased the slider track contrast to meet the minimum 3:1 ratio.
- File and Image Upload: Buttons now programmatically announce their associated field labels for screen reader users.
- Email field: Standardized error messages for all invalid format types.
- Select element: Updated option announcements to "selected" to accurately reflect the dropdown control type.
- Date & Date/Time elements: Users can now enter a date or date/time value directly in the input field, while the calendar icon button is used to open the date-picker dialog and select a value from the calendar. Added support for browser autofill and improved focus management. Each icon button now meets the recommended minimum touch target size and time options now includes clear visible focus indicators.
- Block and Multi-Select elements: Error messages now include parent Block names for better context, and Multi-Select errors are correctly associated with the checkbox group.
- General UI: Enhanced focus behaviour for alert dialogs and adjusted validation timing for form-fields to prevent interruptions during data entry.

## Flexcard Enhancements

- Action: Popovers now feature a discoverable Close icon.
- Multi-Select: Improved pill accessibility by optimizing focus and semantic list structures for selected items.
- Number & Typeahead: Corrected readonly state announcements and error validation timing to prevent interruptions during data entry.
- Date & Date/Time: Users can now enter a date or date/time value directly in the input field, while the calendar icon button is used to open the date-picker dialog and select a value from the calendar. Month navigation within the date picker has also been improved.
- Range: Increased the slider track contrast to meet the minimum color contrast.
- Data Table: Screen readers now accurately convey row and column counts. Sorting and pagination focus management have also been improved.
    - Row Interactions: Enabled arrow key navigation for delete actions and selection checkboxes.
    - Row Reordering: Added keyboard triggers for drag-and-drop actions with positional feedback for screen readers.
    - Pagination & Visibility: Focus is now maintained within the table context during page transitions and column visibility changes.
    - Grouped Tables: Programmatically conveyed row grouping and removed empty cells from screen reader output.

**How:** Most updates are automatic. To access specific enhancements for Radio, Block, and Data Table elements, enable the Runtime Accessibility toggle in the designer Setup tab.

Important Out-of-the-box (OOTB) components and their configurable variants, are designed to be accessible by default. In some implementations, you may have used combinations of discrete Omniscript or Flexcard components to replicate UI patterns, instead of leveraging standard OOTB components. While these custom-built solutions may visually resemble fully functional components, they often lack the built-in accessibility support provided by OOTB components. This can result in gaps in areas such as keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and focus management.
