To better reflect the real-time nature of component, Experience site, and Lightning app previews, Local Dev is now called Live Preview.
Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience in all editions.
Note The Live Preview VS Code Extension for React components is a pilot or
beta service that is subject to the Beta Services Terms at Agreements -
Salesforce.com or a written Unified Pilot Agreement if executed by Customer, and
applicable terms in the Product Terms Directory. Use of this pilot or beta service is at the
Customer’s sole discretion.
When: Starting in the week of April 13, 2026, Local Dev is renamed to Live Preview.
Why: As part of the renaming, you can expect changes to feature names in the Salesforce CLI and the Salesforce Extension Pack for Visual Studio Code (VS Code). You can see the same terminology changes in our documentation, including developer guides, Help topics, and Trailhead content. However, the CLI commands to run real-time previews aren’t changing.
Here’s a quick summary of the key terminology changes.
