# Prevent Inventory Stockouts with Soft Reservations

Reserve inventory for specific demand sources before a physical device is picked from the shelf. Soft reservations immediately decrease the available inventory count to prevent double-booking stock, providing granular visibility into your inventory state and improving fulfillment accuracy.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited editions with Agentforce IT Service.

**Why:** Eliminate the risk of promising the same hardware to multiple employees. By proactively blocking stock during the sourcing phase, you ensure that available counts remain accurate in real-time. This automation reduces fulfillment delays caused by unexpected stockouts and provides a more reliable audit trail of committed versus on-hand inventory.

**How:** To enable soft reservations, navigate to Setup and update the Product Item and Inventory Reservation objects. Then, configure your hardware sourcing flow to include the **Reserve Any Asset** selection logic.
