# Enhanced Scheduling and Optimization

Benefit from advanced features and better schedule quality with Enhanced Scheduling and Optimization.

- **[Improve Routing Quality with the Enhanced Same Site Service Objective](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_fieldservice_262_same_site_objective.htm&release=262.0.0&type=5)**
Maximize productivity and reduce travel time by defining how service appointments are grouped at a single location. You can now choose between grouping appointments within a close vicinity of up to one second of travel time or grouping only those with identical coordinates. Exact location matching ensures that mobile workers complete all service appointments at a specific location, such as a single building, before moving to appointments at a nearby building. This capability is specific for complex sites such as campuses or farms, where multiple appointments exist without traditional connecting roads. Previously, in such scenarios, the objective treated all nearby buildings as a "same site" due to zero travel time, potentially resulting in "zigzag" routing between adjacent structures on a campus or farm.
- **[Boost Mobile Worker Efficiency by Grouping Nearby Service Appointments](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_fieldservice_262_group_nearby_objective.htm&release=262.0.0&type=5)**
Make sure mobile workers maximize their presence in high-volume areas by completing all appointments within a specific area before moving to the next. The Group Nearby Appointments service objective is designed specifically for organizations with a large number of appointments per resource, where multiple workers typically start their day from the same home base location and cover the same geographical area. By prioritizing this objective, you eliminate redundant path overlap so that one mobile worker "owns" the area for the day, maximizing productivity. Previously, the scheduling engine prioritized the shortest overall travel time for individual appointments. This logic often resulted in mobile workers "picking up" appointments on the way to a cluster, which inadvertently caused the remaining appointments in that area to be split among multiple workers.
- **[Accelerate Service Arrival Times by Excluding Home Base Travel in Enhanced Scheduling and Optimization](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_fieldservice_262_exclude_home_base_travel.htm&release=262.0.0&type=5)**
Improve response speed and make sure the mobile worker with the shortest travel time to the site is dispatched, regardless of their home base location at the start or end of their shift. You can now exclude travel to home, travel from home, or both from the Minimize Travel service objective’s calculations when you’re using Enhanced Scheduling and Optimization. This capability is critical for high-urgency industries like Roadside Assistance and Ambulatory Services, where quick arrival to a site outweighs the additional travel time for a worker to return home. Previously, the engine calculated the total travel increase for the entire day—including the return trip home—which often penalized the closest mobile worker if their home base was far from the site. By excluding home travel, the engine focuses only on the travel between service appointments, ensuring the closest mobile worker is dispatched.
- **[Improve Schedule Accuracy with Customizable Travel Time Estimates for Trucks](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_fieldservice_262_travel_time_scaling_factor.htm&release=262.0.0&type=5)**
Enhance scheduling precision and tailor how your mobile workers navigate unique routes by applying a Travel Time Scaling Factor to your truck travel mode profiles. While standard truck routing provides a robust foundation, this enhancement lets you fine-tune travel estimates for commercial vehicles based on your specific operational conditions, such as slower acceleration, lower speed limits, and complex road conditions. Align your commercial vehicle ETAs with real-world travel times to suit your needs for better customer satisfaction.
- **[Get Scheduling Recommendations with Appointment Insights (Generally Available)](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_fieldservice_262_appt_insights.htm&release=262.0.0&type=5)**
Understand why service appointments can't be scheduled during optimization, and what changes you can make to qualify more time slots and candidates for scheduling. For example, consider removing a custom rule that prevents their scheduling.
- **[Improve Schedule Recommendations with the Appointment Insights API (Generally Available)](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_fieldservice_262_appt_insights_api.htm&release=262.0.0&type=5)**
Understand why a service appointment can’t be scheduled during optimization and which work rules are preventing its scheduling with the Appointment Insights API. The new getAppointmentInsights Apex method, under the ScheduleService Apex class, returns data about why a specific service appointment can’t be scheduled on the Gantt, helping you fine-tune your scheduling policy.
- **[Review the History of Scheduling and Optimization Requests with Activity Reports (Generally Available)](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_fieldservice_262_activity_reports.htm&release=262.0.0&type=5)**
Use Activity Reports to get information on scheduling and optimization requests that you run. You can generate an activity report for a specific request type and easily identify whether it succeeded or failed. For example, generate a report on a Global Optimization request that failed. The report output details the reasons for the failure, allowing you to take action and troubleshoot the issue quickly.
- **[Keep Important Appointments Scheduled During Optimization (Generally Available)](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_fieldservice_262_keep_scheduled.htm&release=262.0.0&type=5)**
Safeguard important service appointments, such as those with customer commitments, by preventing them from being dropped from the schedule during global and in-day optimization. Define which appointments to keep scheduled by using Keep Scheduled Criteria. For example, ensure emergency appointments remain scheduled. During optimization these appointments can move to a different resource or time within the SLA. Previously, you could only pin appointments, limiting the ability to create the most optimal schedule. You can also keep appointments scheduled via API by using the updated Optimize global Apex method, which is helpful when you want to schedule optimization runs and aren't relying on manual actions.
- **[Fix Schedule Overlaps Easily with an Automated Scheduling Flow (Generally Available)](https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=release-notes.rn_fieldservice_262_fix_schedule_overlaps_flow.htm&release=262.0.0&type=5)**
Tackle scheduling challenges with an automated flow that optimizes resource schedules to resolve overlaps that occur due to an appointment ending late. Use the flow template recommendations, or adjust the template to suit your use case.
