OpenAI Search Provider in the Search the Web Agent Action Is Now Generally Available

Get relevant, real-time web search results within your AI agents by using OpenAI as a search provider. OpenAI as a search provider, which is now generally available, includes an update to the underlying web search model since the beta release.

Where: This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions for an additional cost. Required add-on licenses vary by agent type. Setup for AI agents is available on the desktop site.

When: This change is available starting the week of May 4, 2026.

How: To customize your search provider, open the Search The Web agent action in Agentforce Builder and select Edit Action. Then, select the search provider in the Configuration Value under Search Provider Instructions. To access the search provider input for the action you added in earlier releases, add a fresh copy from the asset library.
