# Process Small Datasets Faster with On-Demand Processing

Transform small to medium datasets and write back results in near real time without waiting for scheduled windows. Configure definitions to run in on-demand mode to perform ad hoc data validations and processing from Salesforce objects, context definitions, or CSV files.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience in Professional, Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer editions where Data Processing Engine and Data Processing Engine On Demand are available.

**Who:** To use this feature, you need the Data Processing Engine On Demand permission set license and the Run Data Processing Engine Definitions On Demand permission set.

**How:** In the Data Processing Engine builder, create a definition and select **On-Demand Processing** as the processing type.
