# Replace Expired or Refreshed Environments to Maintain Pipeline Integrity

Connect new sandboxes or scratch orgs to your pipeline when existing environments expire, are deleted, or refresh. DevOps Center automatically restores the complete branch state, including metadata and configuration data. Your new environment stays in sync while stage activities pause to prevent promotion conflicts.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience in **Professional (API access required)**,**Enterprise**, **Performance**, **Unlimited**, and **Developer** editions. This change isn't supported in Government Cloud Plus.

**When:** This change is available on a rolling basis starting in August 2026.

**Who:** This change is available to users with a DevOps Center Admin permission.

**Why:** When a sandbox refreshes or a scratch org expires, DevOps Center loses its connection to that environment. Replacing the environment restores this connection and ensures your team can continue working without losing committed changes. For development environments, DevOps Center moves unpromoted work items to the new environment and syncs changes from the pipeline branch. For pipeline environments, DevOps Center moves connected work items and deploys changes from the pipeline branch.

**How:** To replace a development environment, from the DevOps Pipelines tab, select your pipeline, click the down arrow icon under **Approved Work Items**, and select **Replace Environment**. To replace a pipeline environment, click the down arrow icon on the pipeline stage and select **Replace Environment**. After you select a replacement environment and log in, DevOps Center deploys the pipeline branch to the new environment.
