# Choose How Archive Policies Handle Unsupported Objects

Control whether archive policies fail or continue when they encounter unsupported child objects. An Archive Settings toggle gives you the choice between policy failures that protect data integrity (default) or automatic skipping that prevents failures but can cause data loss. Archive excludes non-creatable objects from policies because archived data can't be unarchived if the object doesn't support record creation.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience in Enterprise, Performance, Unlimited, and Developer editions in Archive 2.0 and the Archive managed package.

**Why:** Previously, when policies encountered unsupported child objects, they failed and you had to adjust policies manually. However, when the **Unsupported Child Object Handling** setting is on, archive policies skip unsupported child objects even when Salesforce would otherwise delete or block them to maintain referential integrity. This automatic skipping can cause data loss or orphaned relationships when you archive root records.

**How:** In the Archive app, go to the **Settings** tab and toggle **Unsupported Child Object Handling**. Turn on this setting to skip unsupported objects automatically and prevent policy failures. When enabled, policies skip unsupported child objects and continue archiving. When disabled (default), policies fail when they encounter an unsupported child object.
