# Add Annotations to MCP Server Tools

Add annotations to tools in your custom Salesforce MCP servers to give hints about their behavior. Examples of annotations you can select are Read-only, Destructive, Idempotent, and Open-world.

**Where:** This change applies to Lightning Experience in Developer, Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions.

**When:** This feature is generally available in June 2026.

**How:** In Setup, in API Catalog MCP Servers, select the **Salesforce** tab. Select an MCP server and then select its **Tools** tab. Make sure that you deactivate the MCP server if it’s active. Select the annotations that you want to add to the tool, and then click **Save**.
